Scarecrow0_0
So around a year or so ago I made a thread about rushing the ruins as Wolfgang. At that point in the game I had put in around 100 hours and was still feeling out the game. Now I'm back 250 ish hours later and I've started to take a HUGE liking to Wx. In addition to being able to eat spoiled food, his synergy with Wickerbottom (lighting, food spoilage) is amazing, and being to survive winter without thermal stones is amazing. So I thought to myself why not try rushing ruins? I have successfully completed a ruins rush 10 plus times and I've introduced a close friend to playing dst. Realizing that he isn't experienced enough to rush ruins with me, he insists on playing as Wolfgang. I have 2 questions: Just as a basic for rushing ruins as Wx what would be the essentials to bring out if I'm playing with a Wolfgang and myself as Wx? (Should I spend time to make weapons because of Wolfgangs amazing ability to just tank deerclops?) Also, I have only played solo or with a wickerbottom so I'm wondering what our food source should be if we play? I'm thinking morsels from traps, feeding monster meat to birds and making bacon and eggs or just meatballs but is their any other method that would work more efficiently? Thanks Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88866-rushing-the-ruins-wx78/ Share on other sites
Whoneedspacee
Wolfgang should be fine with a ham bat or nightmare sword, the club doesn't really do much in my opinion and you'd be much better off just making crowns. Magiluminescence is one of the greatest things a Wolfgang or WX-78 can have while running around clearing things in the ruins, and fighting bosses in the dark, same with the star callers or moon callers staff. Meatballs are a great source of hunger to just get Wolfgang up to full hunger in a quick 3 bites, but while he's in mighty mode you'd be much better off giving him honey or cactus or some other filler cheap food to keep him up to full hunger constantly. Other than that combat stuff you'd probably just want the normal construction and deconstruction dupe stuff. You should get plenty of gears and some nightmare fuel as well from the ruins which is always good for equipment and base building, you might be better off making yourself a thulecite club though, as Wolfgang's double damage from a nightmare sword will always surpass it, but it is decent on other characters I've heard. Mencken
I too discovered the marvels of playing with WX who is so powerful in the ancient ruins that he/she can clear it out in a single go unaided. Wolfgang is a great supporting player but WX should do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to fighting. As WX I carry typically 6-8 armor (mix of marble/log, etc.) 2 weapons (one hambat, one tentacle spike), 2-3 moggles (much better all around vision) and enough food for a day. I also bring a pre-built tent and fireplace. Gears supply the rest and I usually go in at 200hp with gears in reserve. Never use gears until you actually need them. Wolfgang isn't too much different other than more food is needed and perhaps cooked green mushrooms for sanity. My experience in the ruins is that fighting should never be during the nightmare cycle and once it begins head towards a base (your tent and fireplace) in the ruins or an area where shadow monsters don't spawn. Use that time to recuperate for phase II to clear out the rest of the clockworks. When fighting clockworks use the Rhinos to kill other clockworks and destroy broken ones, that will save you time. Generally speaking I leave the unfinished science machines alone that I won't be using to rebuild, they offer little in the way of a reward and spawn irritating creatures. While Wolfgang participates in some of the fighting his/her role will also consist of deconstructing statues and broken clockworks.
