Would like to be able to restrict areas so only way in is if a dup is tasked with a specific duty they need to get in there for.

Otherwise the door would act as locked.

Dutys to look for would be, would be each one separate toggle box, not all in 1 universal check.

  • repair something
  • toggle dup flipped enable / disable / switches / valves.
  • farm
  • operate a machine
  • fetch material not supply material, and the
  • supply material not fetch material

also a 2nd filter type like the by dup allow, but instead by job assignment, so only diggers for example.

Thanks for the great game.

It would be nice if they could be restricted by jobs, but I don't know how easy it would be, would probably be easiest if you could manually toggle it on a door or select a zone where you can select what can be done in it.

Would this also help with some of the lag? I was having real problems with lag a while back and someone on the forum suggested rearranging the colony so that the number of paths a dupe could take was more limited.  While this is a bit of a pain I took the advice and it did help (not a lot but it helped). If a door or a room could be designated as only used by a certain job type it would limit that path from being available to all the other dupes thus limiting the number of paths available to them.

I am aware that you can restrict access to individual dupes but I myself tend to change the jobs of my dupes based on my colonies needs and a particular dupes skill set. So constantly having to go through and remember the permissions on all of the doors is a bit of a pain and just adds to the tedious micromanaging I find myself doing.

So that's the reason why my endgame lags were not that heavy than other people's ones. My colonies are all built more restrictive and "highway" like with forced routes they have to take. As example: Regular Dupes are not permitted to rush through my maintenance shafts (like jefferies tubes from Star Trek). There are Heavy Watt Wires and other negative decor objects and only Dupes, which are able to repair stuff, are allowed to enter these. All other Dupes are forced to move through the lovely decorated halls and even my tenured scientists, which are forced to eat low quality food, don't reach their stress limits.

I also built some Express "Elevators" for my couriers and "maintenance personnel". Transit Tube stations in small rooms with only them to be allowed to pass the doors. Kitchen-Farm Express aka dumbwaiter :D
