A modular approach

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been trying to create a modular approach to base construction.  So many bases have become too difficult to manage after enough time. The transition from deoxydizers/algae terrariums to electrolisers/carbon skimmers, for example, is one of the more difficult ones. It has to be done before you run out of algae, and preferably after finding a water geyser and ice biome. Then there is base overheating, which always happens eventually, and ends up killing your food supply.

This module solves both oxygen and heat problems, and is probably the most useful I've made so far. One of these (pictured) will supply enough O2 for 10 dupes. It should be placed in an ice biome to prevent overheating of your base. Piping cold oxygen to the main base using insulated pipes is also the best air conditioning I've found. Two gas pumps should be placed top-left, because hydrogen prefers to settle there. Airflow or porous tiles can be placed along the bottom as pressure-relief. The layout of the pipes and wires shown is needed to maintain a high flow of gas and water and prevent damage to wires. After starting the system with manual generators, the hydrogen generators generally produce enough electricity to keep the batteries topped up. You will need a med bay before starting this because your dupes will probably get hypothermia during construction.

This is in dev build OC-256131. This probably isn't perfect yet, perhaps someone could suggest improvements, or post a module they use.

This will only continue to provide it's cooling effect for as long as the Ice Biome you have breached to built it in remains cool.  Might be 200 cycles from now, but you will eventually heat it sufficiently to thaw all the Ice and Snow, and everything is now the same greenish thermal color as the starter biome was at the start of the game.

ive never seen an electrolyzer overheated before, i just contain them in an insulated room, add pumps and let it run
with the new update, water is no longer dependable, so you'll be switching back to algae once fumaroles become dormant. during the time its dormant youll have to find a way get algae either explore or make them
