Shunt for air systems

Recommended Posts

The Shunt is a new 1x1 tile component that exists in the gas ventilation system.  A shunt dose not have the normal pipe in/out plugs it acts like a normal tile of duct/pipe with two unique differences, the least interesting of which is they can't be inside walls.  A shunt allows you to override the normal flow branching behavior of a packet of gas  that meets a junction.  Normally a packet moves randomly down one of the branches available too it, the shunt lets you set a new probability of flow in each direction.  The shunt interface has 4 sliders arranged radially in the 4 cardinal directions, each goes from 0 to 100 percent with 0 at the center and 100 at the outer rim, the sum of all sliders will equal 100, moving one slider will shift the rest to keep the sum constant.  Sliders will be zeroed and grayed out if their is no pipe in that direction, changing the settings require a dups to manually reset them.

The main use of shunts is intended to be to achieve even distributions, primarily of piped oxygen, throughout the base even on a relatively linear network.  The player would set low branch probabilities for vents close to the source so that their is still some left in the later parts of the system.  This reflects how most real air handling systems achieve even distribution.
