Image album shows an overview of the colony. If anyone's interested, attached is the save file. You'll notice parts of the colony where I was a complete and utter noob, and others where I progressed to being a not so noob. 

 

Long story:

Believe it or not, this is my first and only colony since I bought the game last November. I was like... How hard will I fail at this game by creating a custom game on Fatalistic/Miserable on my first try. Oh boy. The first 700 cycles was STRESSFUL. Problems keep on happening one after the other - Oxygen problems, food shortages, power overload (yeah... conductive wires handling 12kW of electricity... whoops), STRESS constantly hovering at 90+%... And the worst of them all - HEAT DEATH. The abandoned base used to be sorta thriving until heat (Igneous rock liquid pipes bringing water from a steam geyser... err, whoops!) killed the mealwood... I even had to split off my best dupe (Max) and build a house all to himself in case the entire colony dies. I took drastic measures and relocated the entire colony to another place (The Gun). After some tweaks, the colony FINALLY became stable to the point where I can AFK and leave it alone for several hours and it would still be there in tip-top shape. No dead dupes, no overheating, no over-stress, food shortages, power overloads and other shenanigans.

...and saw that one of the game's inspirations is The Sims (paragraph below pic of Otto and Nisbet), I started playing the game as it's if The Sims, creating random fanfics and whatnot. That's when the rest of the colony is built. First is the "Two Hearts" apartment complex, consisting of two families - The married couple and the harem. Married couple: Ren and Ari and their children Meep and Ellie. Harem: Ashkan, Ruby, Nisbet and Mae. The complex has 1 "Maintenance Dupe" (slave) who recharges the batteries, harvests the mealwood, remove the excess hydrogen, clean up the clutter, mush some liceloaf, fix the bed, do the laundry, clean the walls... in exchange for meal lice.

The next area is the "Swamp People". This used to be a skull-shaped swamp cooled by the cold biome above it. This sizeable base consists of 16 dupes with weird voices and is ruled with an iron fist by Mi-Ma. Two dupes maintain the home of the Swamp People - Adler (Abe clone) and Turnbull (Turner clone).

Finally, the last area is Max's Manor. This is the self-sustaining home of my best and favorite dupe. Cute little Max owns most of the colony's Tungsten, Abyssalite, Coal, Wolframite, Sleet Wheat and Balm Lily Flowers. He also has a HUGE STOCKPILE of food - Over 400,000+ kcal of Gristle Berries and 6500+ sleet wheat grain all to himself, while the rest of the colony eats meal lice and liceloaf.

This colony has a story, though it's still a WIP. Backstory end.

Nice work. Nothing like learning on the job. Great that you didn't give up. I like the quirky back story as well.
