late game stagnant

Recommended Posts

around cycle 200 when you've got 100 things assigned and they're all high priority, it seems sweeping and mopping and minor building does not get done.

Can you check your results againt my experience?

Also, is there /can you add a "hidden" priority?

example two level 9 mop jobs, job 1 gets done first.  Aka first assigned first completed.   or vice versa!

I never made the mistake of assigning 100 different things high priority, so, I never experienced this phenomenon.  I am certain that if I did, that's exactly what would happen to my base as well.

Are you already using all 10 priority levels? If not, just use them, instead of asking Klei to add an 11th.  If you're giving mop jobs a 9 priority...you don't need to turn priority up to 11, you just need to stop giving unimportant tasks a 9 priority.

ibdid have a bad habit of assigning every job 9.   that stoped quickly.   but it is easy for a ton of jobs to queue up at dwfault priority later in game.  Especially if you like to pause it and build.   it seems pawns neglect most every thing past a certain level.....no more feeding the machines, mopping, sweeping, digging, nothing.

Also, I think there may be a small memory leak.   more testing to be done.

all errors are googles!

  • Set all your unimportant storage compactors (rock, sand, dirt) to 1 priority.
  • Lock behind doors all machines that produce unimportant things (fertilizer, plastic) and only unlock them when you stash few tons of the material.
  • Set priority 6 on things that must be done, such as coal generator refueling. But only on those things.
  • Think of anything above priority 6 as emergency. If dupes aren't dying, don't use 7+ priority.

Abusing high priority only means that high priority now becomes low priority.

if you set your priorities properly, than your dupes will always be doing what you want them to do.  if they're not, it's because your priorities aren't correct.  Now if they're just sitting idle, that's another thing, but if they're doing something, they are literally exactly obeying the priorities you have set.  I don't know how to stress this enough.    The priority system in this game is very good; you get a ton of jobs at default priority only if you choose to leave a ton of jobs at default.   A lot of people only use 5-9.  It's useful to use 1-4 as well.

about the memory leak--yeap, this game definitely has one.  restart after long sessions of ONI is how I deal with it.
