Hydrogen generators: bugged or just not useful?

I did some looking and some math, and it looks like my hydrogen generators ought to be putting out positive net power, but too frequently I instead see something like the above where there's no hydrogen going out.

 

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to make this kind of setup work?

You need 2 pumps to keep up with the electrolyzer's output in a closed room like that.
The pump can't get the hydrogen out because there is so much oxygen to move.

Ah, thanks! I hadn't even thought to look at the capacity of a gas pump. Each electrolyzer is putting out 1 kg/sec and a pump can only handle half that. Silly me.

Idk if you know about this, but you can make something like this:


After some cycles the pump only grabs hydrogen, so no filter needed (but you can add one to be sure. it will be off most of the time, as the pump only turns on from time to time).
More energy efficient.

Well that's clever. I was having new troubles because my filters were getting overloaded due to an excess of oxygen being pumped into them.
