GuyPerfect
I've often found it irksome that power generators are great at producing energy, but they're maybe a little too good at it. If I'm not mindful of my battery charge levels, I wind up generating excess power and it all goes to waste. While I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do with Automation tech in general, this is one case where I'd really like to put it to use... except it can't be done with the tools I have at my disposal. I noticed that the power generators are beginning to come with Automation ports, and it's so tantalizingly close to a solution to my problem... What I suggest is a new Automation component. My image of a Charge Sensor looks like this: Is a 1x1 Building that only functions when placed on any sort of Wire If placed in the middle of a Wire Bridge, only applies to the Wire being crossed by the Bridge Detects the lowest battery charge level on the circuit to which the Wire is connected Can be configured to specify a battery charge threshold, as a percentage (same as generators) Can be configured to activate whenever the battery charge is either above or below the threshold When active, emits an Automation signal Like any Automation component, the possibilities are endless. A few uses come to mind: Use to control power generators to prevent production of excess power Use to activate emergency power production if consumption exceeds supply Use in conjunction with Power Shutoff to disable non-essential circuits when there is insufficient power Use two in conjunction with logic gates to control a range of charge levels where a generator should be active Use standalone or in conjunction with lights to create a central power monitoring station Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/83810-automation-charge-sensor/ Share on other sites
GuyPerfect
Whoops, someone beat me to it. Well, there you have it: there's a need.
