Wire Network Coloring

Recommended Posts

Just a UI request and doesn't really impact the game itself.

Have different wire networks have different colors in the power overlay. The current system of white/yellow/red can still be used to show power levels, but maybe have an "insulation" or sheath background on each wire that's an arbitrary color for each network. The colors will help us to better manage the networks especially if we're using lots of wire bridges. Maybe also in the power overlay there is a pull down menu that displays all the networks and their current power capacity, consumption numbers and battery levels. Maybe we can also select the colors in the same menu. By default, the networks are randomly assigned a color when first built and if you connect two networks, the new total color will be color the original largest network.

When everything is the same color it's difficult to know if the network i'm tapping is already at capacity. I can select the wire and see, but a color overlay would be so much easier. It would also help me to determine which networks need upgrading.

Anyway just a minor UI request. It has no effect on the actual game mechanics itself.

I like the notion of distinguishing the networks, think it was also discussed in the general forum, my take on it was - I would keep the red and yellow for load status issues. I think having the circuit marked out in in a color or highlighted, perhaps even flashing or crawling dashes when mousing over or clicking on the wire would be a color-vomit free solution - something visually distinguishing about the circuit you're examining.

I'm kind of reminded of how City Skylines handles coloring the transit lines and I just cringe at the thought of fiddling with a color pallet in the electrical overlay. I like customizability. Demarcation is always useful, but sometimes unwieldy if it's over done.
