The Plum Gate
I think some generator that actually takes in gasses and stores power like a battery would be a nice addition to the mix. Now that we have loads of generators - some other form of energy may be a perfect compliment. I think a gas reactor battery - ( or solid oxide fuel cell ), would be an interesting power source - instead of expressing it's production in watts as a continuous source - it instead fills with a fuel source and has an energy storage capacity like that of a battery. The angle here is that the inputs aren't necessarily continuous and outputs are actually on demand - input could be controlled with the valves or switches already in the game and output would actually be on demand as if it were a battery. Not on or off like the our normal power generators. Of course it would inherently have a maximum charge rate but discharge would be handled like that of a battery - able to handle any wattage the line load requires in terms of joules. The simplest example would be big battery with a gas input that must be in a certain atmosphere. The machine sucks in the local air, reacts the the two gasses and provides large energy storage. It's energy is stored in the machine like a battery - think large bursts of energy demand as a use case, no need for wattage just pure joules straight into the grid. A more refined version would have two gas inputs, and maybe a liquid line out, have a high energy storage capacity, and generate local heat. Perhaps even be submersible in liquid or liquid fuel.
