Interior decoration

Recommended Posts

I thought that when building a room (building connecting walls, ceiling and floor) the background would turn tile color making it a complete room.

If there would be no windows or doors in the room, claustrophobic duplicants would feel uneasy and in room smaller than 3x3 blocks felt scared(causing a big boost in stress).

Add wall colors and textures, trees(fruit and decorative), glass windows, claustrophobia...

I like it.,

Gas management is a big point of the game. Having the background fill in would obfuscate this a great deal. I still think it's a good idea, but needs to have some thought as to how to do this without making the gas element (pun intended) harder to see. Maybe have 4x4 walls that have a big picture window in them. if you build 4 high and in x4 increments you get a series of these walls. So the bottom 2 rows would be a solid color (red, blue green etc) but the top 2 would have a window and see the gas swirls. Having a window might give a decor boost - since I'd rather have a series of windows instead of the same art over and over again.

There was actually claustrophobic trait tested during closed testing period. Dupes would have chance developing it and would get stressed by low ceilings or close walls. It was dropped shortly before release, I guess because devs didn't like how it (and other developed traits) panned out.

I think in that particular case, it's a matter of every area being claustrophobic. Accommodating a Loud Sleeper or two is one thing, but trying to inflate the size of your entire base and STILL triggering Mr. Claustrophobe seemingly at random? Not fun, I'd imagine.

As far as wall backgrounds go, I brought up a similar idea, and this isn't the first thread mentioning it independently... perhaps there's some convergent inspiration going on?
