Dupe stats manipulation (via save editing or other means)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was starting a new game with the latest additions/patches and discovered the save files are changed. From the chance log:

·         Save files are now compressed reducing their size by about 90%

I understand the urge to optimize what is possible, but encoding the file impedes ease of editing the saves. Where previously I could easily push athletics, art, cooking … to level 99 in order to save game time, now I cannot. Moreover, I think most users can spare even some 100/200 MB for ONI saves.

Is it possible to revert to uncompressed saves? Can compression be an option? Can dupe’s stats be saved in plaintext file for ease of access or even included as console commands to edit from within the game?

Thank you, in advance!

Isn't this essentially cheating? :/

I mean, I saw Brothgar using something called Cheat Engine to do it for one challenge, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for devs adding a cheat method.

Well yes that is cheating, would also ruin the point of the game imo but the person did say it was in order to save time so they might not have a lot of time to play or focus on it?

That's valid, though a thing I love about ONI though is the fact that it's actually pretty easy (besides the addiction) to pick it up in spurts. I'll play it a bit here and there when I don't have much time just so I can relax, so I don't really mind how long it takes in the grand scheme of things.

Ehhh I wish that were the case with me, I think about the game at work and before going to bed and plan the next step so when I get on I can dive in and forget that time is a thing...people who say pcs cannot be an addiction obviously have not found something they love haha.

It's not cheating. It's a single player game. It's not a competition, there's nobody to cheat on.

It's just "not playing the way devs intended the game to be played". And as such, it does not have guarantee of continuity.

Haha true. I tend to be the same way. I've sunk more hours into this game than I have any other video game in a long time.

Hmm... I could argue that it can be a competition in some ways, as I know I like to compare my base with friends and get fired up if I'm falling behind, but you make a good point. That's a good definition I hadn't really thought of.

Again, this is a single player game. How can you cheat without opposing player(s).

Having super-dupes for me is a time saver. Think about research. It generally wastes time and game resources to obtain needed tech. If you have two people with 99 learning and a third with 99 athletics to supply dirt/water you speed up a process that is generally a grind that is mandatory for you to have a fully functional base. Building, creating art pieces and every game aspect is speed up, so you can focus on base planning and building, not waiting for your orders to be executed.

A valid point is how the decor expectations change with abilities going thru the roof. Must check when possible ^^.

If devs agree with this logic, they should just add a "god mode" into the game proper.

I mean, it's the devs you are trying to convince here, and adding a bunch of console commands would be just as easy as changing the save format, while being more useful and accessible overall.
