Creature printing

Recommended Posts

Creatures are limited resources very sensitive to environmental changes. It is very disappointing then duplicants kill dug up Hatches or Pufts die due increased temperature, usually caused by circumstances out of ones control. This frailty (among problems of moving the creatures to places you want them to be), makes them overly hard to exploit. I would suggest an ability to resurrect dead creatures. Critters, which die, leave a piece of themselves. Once required research is completed, player could build a station, which, using this creatures part and other resources, recreate it.

I like the idea, though I would prefer if it wasn't tied to original counts of these creatures. You need to catch one, do some research about it, then you can print any number of them but they require some upkeep (similar to plants).

Convenient way of manipulating monsters (at least getting the printed ones to the place where I want them) would be nice, too.

Allow some mechanic of duplicate researching these creatures.  Then a machine like a "meat converter" that could turn samples of meat, back into researched creatures.  Which would help maintain the balance I think they want with creatures being a limited frail resource, and help players get them where they want

We already have a printer in the game, maybe some combination of research and new stations/systems could finagle the thing into producing creatures (and who knows what else) as an alternative to new dupes. Since it only activates on a timer anyways it would put reasonable limits on generation rates, and actually provide a meaningful alternative to just swatting the new dupe/reject all buttons late-game. I can already imagine the bemused expressions of duplicate fauna as they flop out onto the floor.
