Textures to represent material used for building

I think that the building materials should be reflected on the building in some form. Below is an example I made where I compare a ladder made of sandstone and obsidian. I'm not saying there has to be a complete redesign for each material just a slight colour adjustment so that it can be visually represented.

When watching ladders I'm still confused by them as they look more like being made out of wood instead of stone, so should a redesign of them be planned the OP idea should be incorporated. The tiles should work the same.
