Oxygen/Gas Storage Tanks

Recommended Posts

I haven't played the game long yet, but something I though could be useful is containers that could store gasses. Basically a tank that works like the batteries, but possibly with a valve to keep it from immediately emptying out back into the gas line again. You can attach it to a gas line, set the filter to only send certain gasses there, and even pump it back into the pipe after. This could be useful if you are overproducing oxygen, you can store it in tanks to use later when resources for making oxygen get low. Also it could store other gasses for when you need them, like with the hydrogen generator, or just to remove gasses like chlorine from areas and store them until you can get rid of them.

Additionally, since I see that you can make outfits with the new patch, maybe you can make a atmosphere suit later in a research tree that stores oxygen. Then you can use it for a dupe to explore farther out before needing to return for air, or delve farther into water for building or repairs.

If this has been brought up somewhere I apologize. I didn't see it in any of the other posts, but I'm relatively new to this forum.

So if you look at some of the game screenshots on the steam store page you can see liquid and gas storage containers and I am assuming that the are still working out the kinks and the storage will be patched in eventually. In the meantime i have found an great way to store gas. A normal gas chamber can store 1.5 kg of gas per space until vents overpressurize. But when the vent is OP then the gas backs up in the pipe at 10kg per pipe section. So i snaked the pipes leading to the vent essentially increasing each block of space in the tank from 1.5kg to 11.5kg of storage. making the tank in the attached image worth 6-7x its size.

This looks like a useful build, I just hope I get good enough at the game to be able to make structures like this instead of scrambling to make power and keep dupes fed. I'm curious, if the point is to fill the pipes with pressure, what is the use of the gas valve? I haven't had much chance yet to play around with it, so I don't see the benefit with my limited understanding.

The gas valve has no use :) in the system. I just put it there in case I need to shut off the gas for whatever reason. Emergency shutoff. As for the scrambling for food it's all about planter boxes. I never use the mush machine anymore it is a colossal waste of water. Just grow loads of that maggot wood stuff. Also I am learning that job assignment makes your colony incredibly more efficient. I reject most duplicates until I get one who is good at the job I need and I assign him to do that job and nothing else. Oh and I only accept vomiting dupes cus ofcourse vomit = precious water
