Mijae
Discussion on a stream led me to test steam conversion to water. The first test put 500g of contaminated water on top of two tiles (1kg total) heated up to turn into steam. At the boiling point one turned into 2.6g of dirt and the other 7.3g. After cooling off the steam turn back into 118.1+85.7+33.2+32.0+220.9+197.3 = 687.2g of clean water. This prompted another test using 1 tile wide conversions multiple times. Each had 1kg of contaminated water on top of magma with super cooled tiles at the top and a gas permeable divider. Three resulted in exactly 10g of dirt and 990g of water (the other had some water condense and block some steam under the gas permeable tile). Not sure if the already planned updates for mass loss fix this as well.

That is weird.
SpoonsOnMyElbows
I've found that in almost every part of this game, testing over 1 tile wide yields 0 loss, while testing over a surface that the gas/liquid could expand over, yielded losses. I.E vomit is exactly 20kg every time when you force it down a 1 tile wide catchment. Yet if it goes on the floor, it can vary widely (even increase!). Same with "accidents". It seems to be a problem when spreading over multiple tiles.
