neal_b4_me
I've been playing this game for a while, and I've always wanted to add my own custom character to the game. I have all the art down, using one of the templates made available in the Sample Character Mod, but I'm stuck on where to place the drawings or what to do with them. I have Spriter, TEX Tool, Build Renamer, Notepad++, etc... so I now just need to know what to do next. Sorry for my beginner knowledge of modding, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/73193-newb-at-modding-need-help-with-creating-character/ Share on other sites
Mobbstar
Follow this guide very closely, then you should be able to create an entire character with unique appearance: For unique perks such as Wilson's beard, you need to either learn coding (Lua is rather easy to learn using internet resources, just google some) or ask a coder for help. neal_b4_me
Yeah I was trying to follow that guideline. I'm having trouble with where to put my custom png files. The video or anything doesn't explain it well enough, at least for a scrub like me. lol. In your mod folder, there should be a folder called 'exported'. Inside, you should have a folder with your character's name on it. Inside your character's folder, you'll want to place your character's .scml file, as well as all the folders containing your character's body parts. For example, all files called 'headbase-#' should be placed in the 'headbase' folder. Once they're there, open your character's .scml file. If you see your character when the file opens, then you've done everything correctly, and it should compile into a useable anim file when next you run Don't Starve, or the autocompiler.
