Difference Betweem Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together?

Recommended Posts

What's the difference between the two games? I have both games and all DLC's but I was just wondering what's the main differences? Because I noticed in DST you can play in offline mode and it's basically the same gameplay as regular DS. Also you can just play DST and get all the cool inventory items which I don't think you can get in DS. Like is there any point in playing regular DS?

One reason would be mods, but that's dimishing as a lot of old mods are outdated beyond working anyways. The other would be ShipWrecked, but even if you want to play that, Kzisor is working on a DST mod based on SW (details in the DST modding section).

another reason is DST’s terrific optimisation and multiplayer lags... i cant host (and play alone ) simple medium world  with caves on my laptop... playing on public servers is not comfortable coz i havnt confidence in their future...

There's a lot of extra content in DST compared to ROG, but ROG has the edge of being able to jump worlds back and forth with Ship Wrecked, a great DLC.

A lot of the gameplay in DST is balanced around multiplayer, so this includes enemy mob health which is in over 1/2 the cases doubled, character balances (Willow, Maxwell and Woodie were changed significantly) and certain items have different uses. Like for example, the touchstone does not automatically revive you but you'd have to walk to it as a ghost after you die to revive. And the life giving amulet can act as a touchstone. Armor has been nerfed so they not only have less durability and protects less.
Fire doesn't set nearby things on fire instantly, but rather smokes first.

DST is a bit more hardcore if you decide to play by yourself, but in my opinion if you don't much care for Shipwrecked, DST would probably be more fun, though harder.
