Survival mode needs adventure mode

Recommended Posts

We really need a campaign once a team is ready.

Why not give us single player adventure mode with the darkness as the villain instead of Maxwell.

The original worlds from single player are great, why not let us do them all in dst as is? I mean tweak them a bit if you like, but the hunt to progess world to world would be pretty similar.

We need a goal, and survival would provide the perfect mode for it. Just require all players to enter at the same time to begin.

If at all, it could be like a vote after the McGuffin was found whether the world is going to be swapped. If everyone agrees, the world is regenerated with a random preset of the Adventure Mode palette. That would mean this world is wiped out, however. Open to abuse as everything, but really, if you're hosting without being an active admin, you're just asking for trouble.

The main issue with the whole idea is performance. You can't retain the world while getting a new one, because it's all hosted on some machine - and more than one person can be playing there.

Another problem is handling player deaths in AM. In DS, you wake up in front of the portal after dying. Imagine what happens when one Wilson dies and his fellow Willow and Webber, and WX, want to play. Is their progress wiped out too?

A viable solution would be a mod which gives you a number of presets a la AM and then randomly picks one for the map. When the world is regenerated, another draw is made. Sounds sane?

Honestly, why does everyone keep wanting to turn DST into DS?  If you want to play DS, I suggest getting it and playing it.  It is a great game.  The style of play in DST, however, is not the same as DS and shouldn't be.  Due to Klei's official servers all being survival (as well as the majority of other servers), one can only assume the intended goal of DST is to sit down for a session and survive as long as you can.  Generally, even during a long play session, you don't get through the summer.  When you sit down to play again, you're starting over (as the server has been reset by then usually due to someone dieing to reset it).

It seems really odd to ask for a single-player gameplay mode to be fleshed out in a game that is specifically meant for multiplayer gameplay.  I really don't think it is appropriate to do this in DST.
