Vargling
I'll explain. Server with no caves still spawns sinkhole Mine sinkhole Go into Sinkhole Generate SP caves world with just you in it - Health values changed accordingly Collect items Go back up Stairs & still have the items you collected. This would open up a ton of modding potential, despite being potentially very hard to disable the console properly, due to hackers and exploiters. Ecu
Transferring items from single player to servers is too open to exploit. It would make it very easy to cheat in items in single player (you cannot stop single player cheating) and then transfer them to the server. It is best to just have servers actually host caves as part of their hosting (which most servers already do). Yeah, but the intended way for this to work would open the ability to run say, Up and Away, Shipwrecked, Shipwrecked's Volcano, Creeps In The Deeps from the client, while connected to a proper server with Vanilla and Caves. Or to allow the ruins to be a separate layer, again on client. This means everyone gets their fair share of thulecite and Guardian Horns. Ecu
Except that Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together are different games. So what you're suggesting would not actually achieve the goal. A better solution would be that they implement Shipwrecked style mechanics into Together. However, it would have to be reworked to effectively fit in with the shorter gameplay time that Together has (10 hours or so on average for a world's life, vs. hundreds of hours for single player). I don't know where you got 10 hours from. Maybe on official servers, that's where newbs generally go (and no hate to them) so it doesn't last as long. Ecu
Check out https://my.jacklul.com/dstservers/statistics. You can clearly see statistically that a majority of the servers are survival servers in Autumn. Given that to get from Autumn to Summer it takes roughly 10 hours of actual playtime straight, a majority of players will not see much further play during a single playthrough. This can be due to dieing themselves or due to having to log off and someone else dieing while they are offline, causing the server to restart. This is why I feel that content additions to the game should be designed such that they focus on the first year of play experience primarily. So to implement something along the lines of Shipwrecked into Don't Starve Together, it would be best to redesign it for this period of gameplay. Likely, this would mean integrating water and water travel into the main world generation rather than having a separate Sea area. Possibly by altering places like the swamp to have bog areas which is where reeds grow more commonly (and boats are needed to traverse them), etc. It would be quite a difference experience when compared to the Don't Starve single player experience, because again...they are different games.
