Michi01
How exactly does attacking fully domesticated beefalos affect them? I know that it drains 30% domestication, but it appears that the beefalo continues to be fully domesticated because it keeps its tendency-based traits and its minimum obedience so I don't really know how it's supposed to affect them. It seems like it shortens their riding time but is that actually all that happens? DarkXero
2 hours ago, Michi01 said: It seems like it shortens their riding time but is that actually all that happens? Yes. Because the buck timer depends on: 1) the domestication percentage 2) if the beefalo is in heat 3) if the beefalo is shaved 4) if the beefalo is domesticated It also loses 100% obedience. But it won't go below the minimum obedience. So the rider, for example, will stay at 95%. If you feed/ride it for 6 days, you will cover the lost domestication. It lost its domesticated face and fur but after I joined I started to work on it again. After 6 days of constant brushing and feeding its not back to normal. It has its pudgy face and gives the sanity boost (pudgy was its original tendency) but it does not have the normal domesticated beefalo fur and is staying in heat. Not sure if it has minimum obedience. What's going on with it? DVGMedia
hmm that is interesting that did happen to me once before but wasnt actually in heat and the tendancy bonus was still there so i dont really know on that the basis on domestication loss on a already domesticated beefalo does make it not last as long when its near turning feral domesticated beef stays domesticated until it lost all of its domestication. thats when it goes feral ' Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/71251-question-about-domesticated-beefalos/#findComment-831289 Share on other sites
Michi01
We tried restarting the server to see if it fixes the beefalo but all it did was make him lose the sanity aura so we freed him. No idea what was up with that thing. Shenny
Forgive the hijacking, but I have a question regarding ornery beefalos and domestication. I have an ornery beef in my care, I haven't been keeping up with feeding and riding as well as I should, but I keep it and three others (riders and a pudgy) near salt licks. Lately when I'm riding Ornery, he's suddenly slow. He wears the war saddle all the time and I know it's not as fast as the normal one, but he runs at wild beefalo speed, which is incredibly slow. Is this because he's losing domestication? Is it something else? Also I was under the impression that keeping beefs near salt licks would keep them domesticated, is this not the case? I still have them running to me every day when I pass by them. DarkXero
3 hours ago, Michi01 said: What's going on with it? Your beefalo got undomesticated, for sure, for whatever reason. Maybe after the -0.3 of the attack, it got separated from the salt lick for a while, and the hunger was 0. If it wasn't fed for 10 days or more, then when the domestication penalty hits, it hits hard (since its based on how much time passed after the last domestication tick, and not the last salt lick). I found two bugs that can be consistently be replicated: 1) After a pudgy domesticated beefalo goes from domesticated to feral, the sanity aura still exists (until you reset the server). 2) If you hit a domesticated beefalo 4 times to make it reach 0 domestication, it will get stuck in the domesticated status (it seems it will only go feral if the decay task lowers the domestication, not via hits). They will keep the fur, and the face, but they will get red tails when going on heat. 24 minutes ago, Shenny said: Is this because he's losing domestication? No. 24 minutes ago, Shenny said: Is it something else? I guess placebo effect, since the riders with glossamer saddles are faster. BEEFALO_RUN_SPEED = { DEFAULT = 7.0, RIDER = 8.0, ORNERY = 7.0, PUDGY = 6.5, }, SADDLE_BASIC_SPEEDMULT = 1.4, SADDLE_WAR_SPEEDMULT = 1.25, SADDLE_RACE_SPEEDMULT = 1.55, Those are the speeds and the saddle multipliers. I put a war saddle on an ornery beefalo and I managed to attack a wild beefalo and outrun it. Outrun it as in, I press and hold a single key, and the distance between me and the enraged beefalo grows during the chase. 24 minutes ago, Shenny said: Also I was under the impression that keeping beefs near salt licks would keep them domesticated, is this not the case? It is the case. The domestication decay is paused. 24 minutes ago, Shenny said: I still have them running to me every day when I pass by them. They want to greet you. Forgive the video quality, but you tell me if this is normal cause it doesn't seem like it should be. Also I've had three beefalo that were sitting at a lick go wild on me. Are you sure it completely halts undomestication? How much am I supposed to feed them when out and about? Michi01
Weird, the person who accidently attacked the beefalo assured me it was only attacked once and it was penned in with a bunch of salt licks and an ornery and a rider beefalo (I like having a complete collection) which didn't go feral. You said that it loses the sanity aura after relogging so it must've been domesticated when the server was started. The server belongs to a streamer though so it's only up for a couple of hours per day so not much could've happened in that time. Also do you know a good way of getting a beefalo with the default tendency? DarkXero
21 hours ago, Shenny said: but you tell me if this is normal cause it doesn't seem like it should be That is indeed not normal. It's a bug. But I don't have enough information to determine why that happens. 21 hours ago, Shenny said: Are you sure it completely halts undomestication? In theory, yes. In practice, it could happen that a beefalo runs to a player and stays away from the salt lick if it goes to sleep when everybody leaves the area. The tasks for domestication ticks and for salt lick search are separate, with different periods. And as I also said "if it wasn't fed for 10 days or more, then when the domestication penalty hits, it hits hard (since its based on how much time passed after the last domestication tick, and not the last salt lick)". So pair a lot of time after the last tick and a chance for the beefalo to screw up the salt lick checks, and you might get a domestication tick that causes a heavy loss. Basically, park your beefalo near a salt lick, and put walls around it. 22 hours ago, Shenny said: How much am I supposed to feed them when out and about? I would give it some twigs every day, two or three (so the last domestication gain updates), and ride it once in a while. For food values and other info, you can see: https://youtu.be/OL6Jp6pOL2U?t=1m20s 16 hours ago, Michi01 said: How much am I supposed to feed them when out and about? A beefalo with no sanity aura wasn't necessarily domesticated on the previous server session. You said "It lost its domesticated face and fur but after I joined I started to work on it again". And if it lost the face, then it lost everything. When a beefalo goes feral, it loses all the tendency points. My guess for the timeline of events is: 1) Pudgy beefalo is hit 2) Life moves on, beefalo remains domesticated (you verify tendency, traits, and minimum obedience), server is closed 3) Server starts, and after a while, beefalo is found undomesticated (no fur, no face), for whatever reason, but with sanity aura (due to bug) 4) You think it's domesticated because it gives the sanity aura 17 hours ago, Michi01 said: The server belongs to a streamer though so it's only up for a couple of hours per day so not much could've happened in that time. 60 (seconds in minute) * 60 (minutes in hours) * 2 (a couple) = 7200 (total time) 7200 (total time) / 480 (seconds in day) = 15 (days) 0.0005 (worst case scenario domestication loss) * 48 (total domestication ticks in day) * 15 (days) = 0.36 (domestication lost) So it is pretty big. More time, more loss. Maybe it was hit in another occasion. Maybe it had already lost domestication for whatever reason because it got glitched with the salt lick. In any case, we can't tell with certainty what happened because we don't have access to the domestication value at the time. Also, I'm currently testing the salt licks, and there's something interesting I observed. I domesticated a beefalo, and parked it near a salt lick. In general, the domestication doesn't fall. However, the following can occur: 1) salt lick effect is going to run out and beefalo will start losing domestication 2) beefalo goes to lick the salt lick to renew the decay protection 3) night comes, BEEFALO FALLS ASLEEP, and DOESN'T LICK THE SALT LICK, therefore, no decay protection is applied 4) beefalo loses domestication over night Beefalos losing domestication over night, because they don't have a rider, and hunger is 0. And if they didn't receive attention for days, that loss may be catastrophic. Michi, take care of the other beefalo, make sure they are being ridden once in a while. M.P
So if i feed that cow before it falls asleep, it won't lose domestication points since its hunger point is above 0 at that time, right? And I just want to make sure about something. Do i need to feed the cow during the day if i have salt lick? DarkXero
4 minutes ago, M.P said: it won't lose domestication points since its hunger point is above 0 at that time, right? As long as hunger stays above 0 during all night, yes. So you need more than a single twig. Winter nights are longer than usual. 5 minutes ago, M.P said: Do i need to feed the cow during the day if i have salt lick? You shouldn't, as long as it is near the salt lick, and that when you leave, it is near the salt lick.
