Killing The Dragonfly - PS4

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

As we know, the Dragonfly is a 'little' harder in DST.

On the PS4 I have been using a method whereby one "walls themself in" after luring the dragonfly inside the wall and then beating him to death with a ham bat.
Am I surviving the fight solo? Yes... Log suits are lost and healing salves are consumed but I can happily 'survive' the fight.

The PROBLEM is the fight becomes somewhat of a DPS race to kill the fly, as eventually he spawns so many larvae that he won't actually fly back inside the walls anymore because there are to many things blocking his path. D:
(Bear in mind, it doesn't work like this on the PC, the PS4 is a 'few patches behind' with content so to speak.)

Anyways; essentially what I am looking for is one or maybe two players who don't mind logging into my world and helping me kill my dragonfly (leaving me with all the scales and gems to use, obviously) - in return I will come to your world and help you kill yours!

I have already made quite a large supply of wigfrid 'battle helmets' and have a stack of 40 healing slaves to use!

Looking forward to finding someone to 'trade kills' of our Dragonfly's with!

Thanks!

I've also tried the "walling in" method, it worked for a bit & then D-Fly got stuck & at a point started attacking my wall. I wasn't sure why this happened after seeing other people doing it successfully... But your explanation of the larvae being in the way makes sense.

I'm now intrigued if the "box" size & shape would make a difference, cause my original box was only maybe wall count of 10 x 10... Which didn't leave much space to move around in.

Have you tried the pan flute method? (Not sure if that's been patched though!)

I prepared my world for the Pan Flute + Gunpowder killing method and gonna try it later.

What is your play timezone? I could jump in and help if you want, I play usually from around 21EEST (18UTC), my PSN is Lionel_Redstar

I did that method for the trophy, but it's not practical resource wise if you want to grind for D-Fly's drops.

Here's my video from when I did it if you're interested... Good luck.

Well, on the PC, (beta, to confirm) me and my 2 friends make a 'small wall' and we get inside, smash him till he flies off, then as he comes back we wait until the last larvae "automatically" dies and then AS that happens, we pan-flute him. This breaks the enrage and then we just hit him again until he flies off, rinse and repeat. (I'm also going to try using an ice-staff while there is one Larvae left, i think that might help? I don't know if he will enrage while frozen...)

I also used a very similar 10x10 box size, but now I made the 'front' of the wall MUCH larger so that the larvae have space to spread out, hopefully it makes a difference! The annoying part is building the walls close enough to the magma for the fights but far enough away that the dragonfly doesn't just smash the whole thing down. xD

Oh wow, that is a LOT of gunpowder no? 27500 HP, so, you're telling me you've farmed 137/138 gunpowder? I know nitrite is renewable from earthquakes, moles and to some extent meteors but that is a LOT. XD
I am from the UK. :D so GMT. I usually have my PS4 on for Spotify and the app so if you message me whenever I will probably see it! (I already accepted your 'add'! :)

Yep, drop a stack, bang, flute, repeat. This is how I imagined the method would work. But it's like you said; grinding 140 nitrite, while possible, is not a practical way to use 'most of your worlds nitrite'. :( Nevermind the fact that you also have to use 4-5 pan-flute charges to kill it!
This is why I want to investigate using the ice-staff on the PC, 1 blue gem is FAR easier to get then 140 nitrite. x)

There was the pan flute method which you is where you "flute" DF just before it spits first larvae out & it stays kinda stuck at the pit & unresponsive, which I believe allowed you to pound it with no retaliation. I heard it was patched & haven't personally tried it... But in my video you can sort of see it happen twice. The first time he got up quickly after being "fluted" by the pit, but just stood there & then it happens again by the final pit. Might be worth investigating.

The flute + gunpowder method I've seen is much simpler.

  1. Generate 138 gunpowder.
  2. "Flute" once to put it to sleep.
  3. Drop all the piles of 40 right on top of the sleeping dragonfly.
  4. Drop the pile of 18 one step away from the piles of 40 you just dropped.
  5. Light the pile of 18.

Yes, but I'm trying to kill him without using ANY gunpowder, you can probably use this method once, maybe twice? Then your world is pretty much out of nitrite and you got to start farming for it using earthquakes / mole worms and meteors which is a PAIN.

I'd caution against that method... I tried it & he moved away too quickly so didn't get full damage of all gunpowder. I might have done it slightly wrong or something, but point is it didn't work for me. Good luck though.
