Protective Golem

Recommended Posts

I think that it would be amazing to be able to assemble a golem that's job would be to protect your base. He'd be like a mobile sentry, patrolling and keeping watch for stray spiders, werepigs, angry tree guards, hounds, and boss monsters.

One thing that Don't Starve can always use more of is a good reason to go adventuring into the world and filling in your map.

The way I imagine building this golem is to find his various body parts around the world. Actually, at the start of the last "A New Reign" update, that's what I was hoping the marble heads were going to be for. I thought, "Oh my gosh, I'm going to have to find a head, arms, legs, and a torso. Then I can piece them together. Maybe it will be a golem."

I ended up being wrong, but the idea has stuck with me.

Now, since we have the marble structures, this idea may be somewhat recycled, but it would still be incredibly cool.

It would be like finding scattered parts of a robot, all thrown about in the world. It's our job to collect them and bring him back to life.

Maybe one of the pieces we find could be a structure that we assemble the pieces on top of. That way, when he's completed, he has to stay within a set perimeter of said structure. So, you have to choose where you're going to set him into the world.

If he's a robot golem, perhaps he can freeze in the winter and rust in long periods of rain. We could craft an oil can to get him moving again and build a fire next to him to unfreeze him.

Just an idea! I would love to see something like this added to the game. With everything that wants to kill us, it would be so fun to have something that finally wants to protect us. You know, without having to bribe it with meat.

A bit different but still in the same vein...it'd be nice if Broken Clockworks were less limited, what with this being multiplayer. Like, maybe you could rarely get a blueprint from hammering an Ancient Pseudoscience Station, for building new allied Clockworks? Should take a lot of resources to make a Clockwork from scratch, but still.
