First off I am not a pro and all this is my opinion so you love it fine hate it fine, I don't care.

Now a lot of times characters like willow, wes wolfgang and woody (just to name a few) get a lot of hate for there weakness which can be bad. But I always thought there was a bright side to these weakness and sometimes you might not like a character but you could be struggling with aspects of the game and being them can help you learn and overcome them.

Now this topic is for new players or players that feel stuck and can't get passed something when x happens or shutdown because x happened but have trouble finding ways around it or don''t know the exact problem.

Now I will do most of the characters and show you how dealings with their weakness can help you in certain situations not to necissarily with that character but to help improve making decisions as the player.(Shipwrecked and RofG characters included)

Pick Willow if your bad if your bad with dealing with unexpected surprises or problems or when they escalate. With her low sanity and her random starting of fires as her sanity is low. While you can predict or know when its going to starting happening its hard early or in the middle of a game to stop her completely but you can minimize damage. Knowing how to set things up and how to salvage correctly or thinking clearing in high stress situations makes it easier for you later to continue after after a forest fire or lightning strike or anything that you may of thought of but not entirely prepared for comes your way.

Pick Wolfgang if you have trouble dealing with hunger or hunger problems that can arise late into a mission or game. Now Wolfgang has a bigger stomach then normal and its ok to fight wimpy but your goal is to see how long you can keep him in his normal form or mighty and not drop down. This will make you actively seek food while doing normal activities and make productive crackpot recipes

Pick Wendy if just because more foes keep coming or a stronger foe comes up you run or your scared to fight some mobs because you don't think you can but in realaity its not as bad as it seems. The only rule for this is you can not summon Abigail you have to fight everything by yourself or use items. (with in reason)This is suppose to show looks or stats don't mean its unkillable or that there are multiple ways to kill an enemy.

Pick WX-78 if you have problems dealing with constant damage or poison and to pick and choose fights based on the environment so is now the best time to fight x mob or can you wait. The only thing here is I would avoid using gears as they buff you and are an insta heal which is unfair to other characters as this topic is to help deal with situations that can arise normally as any character or player.

Pick Wickerbottom if you have trouble with sanity loss when there are no items or things to use. This is a common in new players that have trouble with recovering s anity normally when now roll, tents, etc are available this should help with using items in the fashion tab and actively using them and not just for building structures. or making items for the first time like a sewing kit. for new players Her food spoilage can also show players how to ration food that are in abundance. (we've all been there with a fridge of stale food)

Pick Woodie if you have a problem with getting a decent camp in a short time or have problems with getting back to normal after a huge fight or dealing with a low stats and getting them back to normal. If you panic when all your stats are low and you have a hard time finding a good location and setting up base in a very short time. For me this the ten day time constraint help me scout fast and set up bases in hostile enviroments or adventure mode. The rule here is that you can not use your werebearver form to escape danger your only allowed to transform when it is unavoidable which is the full moon.

Pick Maxwell if you have trouble with fighting or properly kiting or you are easily discouraged by fighting because you have low health. Maxwell will force you to take risks and learn the attacks and how to dodge enemies and prepare for fights. Now this rule is optional but I don't want you using his puppets or his starting sword and armor as this can easily make you tank crazy things and go on a rampage but if you don't conserve you will die later so its ok.

Pick Wigfrid if you have problems constantly fighting enemies or have problems with limited diets or foods. This will also help you to conserve finite amount of food and help you maximize recipes and using crock pot fillers. the rule here is that you can only use monster meat as your meat source or if you want adventure mode practice you can only use monster meat or monster meat recipes as your only food. This will balance out her perks Wigfrids perks. (Wigfrids rule is totally optional because of the limited  food recipes but i still highly recommend using one or the other for good practice)

Pick Webber if you have problems with sanity but are bad at fighting pigman Now if you did use wickerbottom and still have sanity management issues then go for webber because his sanity problem will be more constant with the low cap requiring more precaution  when traveling through wormholes Also he is good practice if you have trouble kitting pigman or dealing with catcoons and other neutral mobs the only rule here is unless it is a boss monster or giant do not use his spider power of befriending spiders because you might not learn how to deal with monsters by yourself. If you send spiders to kill everything for you

I have nothing for Walani I guess you could pick her if you always pick Wilson and want to learn how to survive winter and get beard hair with out the beard which is useful practice for fighting nightmare creatures.

Pick Warly if you want to learn about all the different crock pot recipes and what each one does and you might say well I already need to know the ones I need Meaty Stew and Meatballs. Yes that is true but there is a lot of crock pot recipes and a lot do different things. Some like Fruit Medley(shipwrecked) can replace healing items some might not do a lot but store for a very long time making them good for winter and things like taffy, trail mix, and ice cream are big sanity boosters. Not all the time are you going to have every ingredient at you fingertips so its important to know what you can always make at any one time from best to worst. Warly can do that and you get penalized for doing the sameW recipe over and over again

Pick.Wilbur if you want to practice hunger management a bit easier cause he's more close to a normal characters stats and if you want to practice listening to sound clues and other things with out the character telling you what is going to happen thsi can also help with remember what an item does with out being told i recommend you play hem on RoG but it doesn't matter.

Now Woodlegs is special I recommend him you to pick him if you want to get used to the Caves and Ruins constant sanity drain and coming up with multiple solutions to a constant problem will make when you do go into the caves a lot less terrifying. Now I haven't been in the caves much but if you practice just playing woodlegs i'm sure the constant sanity drain will seem less daunting only rule to this is no lucky hat and only on a RoG world that way the sanity drain for being on land is constant.

Now if your like HA I DID THIS NO SWEAT I DID ALL THESE I'M A MASTER. Then my hats off to you sir(I don't believe you). There is one character you haven't tried and that is WES! If you want to go in the belly of the beast head first in the Iron Charlie and don't care at one step at a time and just rather fall. Then pick WES! he has all you need to learn how to play well apart from constant damage and maybe minimizing damage in bad situations. A lot of people say WES! is a useless character and he is but that is the fun of it all every achievement you make and discovery well for me always felt bigger cause i did it as WES!  He can be very frustrating but if you really need it or want it give him a shot (multiple)

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you feel like your in a rut even if you hate a character just by his perk or weakness pick him or someone different your be surprised how fun it is. if you want to give adivce to new and old players i welcome it and that is why it is here If you decide to take the information here an make it into a guide I welcome it just make sure you put me as a credit I posted this here and not as a guide in steam cause this was easier I will also have some ideas i might but on polls. Ask me anything (within reason) hope this thread stays active for a long time

LETS ALL DIE TOGETHER

P.S all this information here is for DS this is suppose to help you on your own and not DST cause thats with other people and dynamics can be different.
