Because to me it seems that going from having them locked by default to locked optionally is not a big step. It is if the locking of chests or making safes requires a resource that isn't so common (moon rock) then what would be the problem? Most chests would then be open for public and only a few would actually be locked normally. Because usually early-game players will most likely have a lot of chests, with little to no moon rocks and gears would be needed for ice boxes and ice flingomatics anyway, so safes would be at the bottom of the list between the three. Late-game players, however would most likely be experienced and would leave some resources available to others for taking, leaving about half of the chests locked, which would include both rare and common resources that they only share with their friends and people they trust where as the other half of the chests would include just common necessary resources for newbies that join in. Getting a bunch of gears and moon rock takes time and with what I've done, land-fill with structures wouldn't really be as common nor would it be a bummer for newbies that all of the chests are locked for a few days and then after like 4 days they're all unlocked, which griefers can and a lot of the time WILL just wait out to loot out and leave. So yes, that is a big step. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69341-sigh/page/2/#findComment-801002 Share on other sites
SuperPsiPower
In my honest opinion, griefing, anti-griefing fixes and updates, and how players interact with one another in servers (official or otherwise) are not Klei's problem. Instead of letting people find your base, you're gonna have to isolate your base otherwise you might as well put a sign that says "Welcome all griefers, come destroy my base". I often seclude my base in the Caves cause most people don't go down there unless they're good at surviving. Those "Anti-Grief" mods can be ineffective sometimes too, I joined a server that had it enabled and I was trying to burn some trees for charcoal, but I got denied of that because it was considered "griefing", so it removes a key mechanic in base building. But this is the problem and it IS a problem Klei needs to address; isolating yourself from others; that is not what the game is about. Might as well just play on a private server or play single player, because you're going away, not wanting to interact with anyone. Isolating yourself isn't what the game is about and if griefing does this, it is an important issue that needs to be addressed. Also, I am not sure whether you've read my suggestions, but in case you haven't, here you go. Remember the last time everyone complained about griefing? Willow was nerfed so badly that literally almost no one plays her anymore. I stand by my opinion that it is not Klei's problem. Why should they have to create a whole new code/system just because people get a kick out of annoying people? Your ideas sound better on paper then putting them into action, people have been asking for those types of changes for the past 2 years, you're not the first. and lastly, I said isolate your base, not yourself. Invite people you trust into your base. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69341-sigh/page/2/#findComment-801121 Share on other sites

So, because every other game has this (I would like some examples of games with "antagonistic multiplayer player-base") that means we should just leave DST at that to... "fit in" with the other games? How does your reasoning even work, I am curious. Remember the last time everyone complained about griefing? Willow was nerfed so badly that literally almost no one plays her anymore. Most of Willow's changes had nothing to do with griefing, the only one being that she lights fires when insane. Losing fire immunity I've no idea why it got implemented, but the lighter craftability and durability addition seems to had been done to make her useful to others, although the way that got executed was a fail. I stand by my opinion that it is not Klei's problem. Opinion does not outweigh reason. I gave you reason why it is Klei's problem, yet you still refuse, because of what I can only guess is not accepting the idea of changing your mind? Why should they have to create a whole new code/system just because people get a kick out of annoying people? I. Already. Explained. Why. Your ideas sound better on paper then putting them into action Proof that these would be bad in practice? We need to put them in practice in order to actually determine., people have been asking for those types of changes for the past 2 years, you're not the first. I've only seen people asking for specific changes that "deal" with griefing after it has happened, not before. The only person I know of/remember here who is all for preventative measures that deal with griefing before it happens is leonseye who too is the reason why I am for such measures. and lastly, I said isolate your base, not yourself. Invite people you trust into your base. Not a viable solution if you don't know who you can trust and who you cannot. Your friends? Then play on a private server with them; then it's pretty much all the people you trust that you play with! FappyGilmore
have you tried not playing on public servers? just make a private server for you and your friends. if you play on public servers expect **** like this to happen. and if you don't have any friends play the less ****** up version of don't starve, single player. Arlesienne
A different approach... Serious servers have a description. It is a good indicator of what sort of people you may overall expect.
