TwigsAndSticks
Howdy! Let's discuss this. What do you do in the first second that you start a new game of Don't Starve? (Put it down below I want to know!) Let's take this step by step! This will be 2 parts each topic. Step 1: Getting first meat from your neighbors. Sounds fine right? Just knocking on their burrow and saying "Hey uh..do you have some..meat?" But they're just bunnies.. they eat carrots. So then you say that you'll trade them a carrot for some meat. They agree and then you probably literally stab them in the back, or make them a grass woven "home". But using a carrot to trap the rabbit/coax it is a waste of food. Everyone used to do this. Don't lie. Then someone figured out that you can place the rabbit trap right next to the rabbit hole then you'll end up catching a rabbit! Now you have your first meat! Sometimes if you accidentally wander into a swap you'll usually find a merm house next to a tentacle. You'll usually find them fighting. When one dies, collect the loot. Sometimes if the merms kill the tentacle you'll maybe get some tentacle spots or a way better weapon the tentacle spike! I usually check the swamps for that. Sometimes you'll find pigs fighting the tentacles or the merms. Step 2: Base setup. This step is important too. You'll usually place the fire pit first. If you are playing RoG place the science machines away from the pit. Actually there eally is no need for a long explanation. Since things in RoG can smolder then burn in Summer, ice-flingomatics are always needed. Place your fire pit make sure basically everything has a certain place. Chest area, drying racks, berries, twigs, and grass. Each area must have at least 1 ice-flingomatic. The fire pits will be extinguished from the ice-flingomatic including the Endothermic fire pit. I'd look at videos or other tutorials about this I'm not qualified to type this Next part: Trapping your neighbors This base's Flingo isn't in range of the fire pits. Some things here like the icebox aren't flammable so they are ok to place within the circular range of the Flingo Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/69317-dont-starve-guide-first-meat-and-base-setup-by-twigsandsticks/ Share on other sites
Asparagus
de ja vu... I remember that image... then came discussions about those being used to distract the deerclops and subsequently other giants... Trojan.exe
1. Well I use the moleworms to farm morsels in early days(using log in log out feature), since hammer can be crafted readily in ROG and moleworms can be converted to rock farm later. Additionally, crafting atleast 5 traps for rabbits are a waste of grass. I’d rather use grass for rope base items like tooth traps. 2. I agree most of them, I’ll just add a couple things. Place your crock pots and icebox near your camp fire for cooking at night. Plan logically first before aesthetically building your base. You may want to be organize so you can react fast when seasonal giants spawns. 3. I thought hounds attack walls to get to the player even there is a clear path to him/her making tooth traps on the entrance of a walled base inefficient? Though I use the idea of placing scattered walls and rots around my base to protect it from giants. Conclusion: A good guide but I‘d rather teach new players what food is good or not and how to secure different sources of food before base building. Since this is don’t starve not minecraft. Just a little critic of mine, don’t take it personally. Keep posting guides, it’s cool bringing up topics so old but gold.
