Klei will probably never look at this as suggestion section is the last thing on their ever expanding list .-. But here I go anyway!

I'm quite surprised that they've never thought of this cool feature. This could make Snurtle and Slurtle shells more reliable and require the player themselves to obtain them instead of letting other creatures do the dirty work for them. And actually it're kind of more of a drag to let other things kill snurtles and slurtles because unlike players, mobs simply keep hitting them whilst they're in their shellform, which in turn can take a while for other mobs to kill them (examples can be tentacles, bunnymen and rocklobsters). So here is how I thought the Snurtle and Slurtle shell drop mechanics could work:

Instead of the current 10% or 50% chance, there is 100% chance of you getting the helmet... But, if you hit the Snurtle or Slurtle while they're in their shell form, the durability of the Shellmet or the Snurtle Shell Armor would decrease. If you get to a point where the armour has lost all of its durability but the Snurtle/Slurtle has still got health left, their shell would be destroyed (turning into broken shells) but they would still be alive. At this point it would be much easier to kill them as they would have no shell to retreat in, however you wouldn't get a nice Shellmet or a Snurtle Shell Armour from them.

For Slurtles, and I believe Snurtles too, they have 95% damage absorption from physical damage while in their shell. So, why does the Shellmet have 90% damage absorption when a player wears it? If it's supposed to be a good piece of armour that compares with the Tulecite Crown, it having that 95% damage absorption would be good since the armour has less durability and doesn't have any special effects (Thulecite Crown has a 5% chance of brining up a shield for 5 seconds which makes a player immune from any physical damage whilst the shield is on), yet it is still quite hard to obtain.

So, with what I've described in place, we would probably start relying on Shellmets instead of Battle Helmets mid or late game in DST. We would probably get helmets with 90% - 99% or so durability quite often due to being stupid and wanting to whack a Slurtle or a Snurtle one extra time with a ham bat, though it would mean we would have better resistant pieces of armour on our heads and in our inventory a lot of the time, whilst battle helmets and football helmets could be given to random newbies that join. And yeah, Wigfrid might become less useful mid and late game, but hey, she's still better oriented for combat than most other characters!

And perhaps to add a liiitle more things to this, perhaps the Shellmets and Snurtle Shell Armors could be repaired via Broken Shells... Just so if someone/we fail to get a hellmet, we can still repair our current helmet via it. Perhaps adding 25% durability per repair would be decent. The Broken Shells need some more uses anyway, so why not?

P.S. Speaking of Snurtle Shell Armor... The wiki saying that enemies that aggroe onto you when wearing it and hiding in it would de-aggroe after 5 seconds or so... Well, doesn't happen for me; Depth worms, hounds etc. Keep chomping on my armour :( so it's either a bug or the wiki lies. Also I hate the fact that Lavae are so broken; they don't attack anything but players and even if a player is hiding via Bush Hat or Snurtle Shell Armor before Lavae spawn, they STILL aggroe onto you and attack you... WTF?!
