Vote Trolling Reductions

Recommended Posts

I had a pretty solid cave base last night.  Life amulets, meat effigies, bunnymen.  I was on about day 30, and the public Klei hosted server was on about day 80.  So, of course, two day 1 trolls logged on, and vote kicked me and one other guy off the server while spamming racist obscenities and kick votes.

Now granted, the kick didn't last very long, and the server didn't actually restart, but wow is that annoying.

So I'd like to propose some voting change ideas:

1.  Greatly increased vote kick timeout.  Hard to click no every 30 seconds while running from terrorbeaks.

2.  Ability to toggle between yes and no until the timer elapses.  One misclicked yes (also running from terrorbeaks) and you and your friend are gone, 5 vote kicks in.

3.  Show who started the vote!  One troll on a vote kick spam fest is impossible to get rid of on an 8 person server!

4.  Vote Trolling Reduction Ideas:

  • Put a minimum day cap before you can start a vote.  Even something like 3-4 days would probably be sufficient.
  • Maybe ghosts can't vote on survival servers?  Might be too harsh if they're the ones being trolled...
  • Weight the votes in some way.  If clown baby has 1000 days on the server, his vote should hold more weight on a kick or a server restart vote.  How much more?  I'd propose VoteWeight = ln(survival days).

I think all of these ideas would have a largely positive impact on the voting system, A single guy tried to randomly votekick me last night and started the server equivalent of World War III, because nobody could figure out who started the kick.

The vote trolling is real.

Two times in a row, a bunch of players jumped into a late Winter server, and started a "Regenerate world" vote, resetting the world for everyone else. This is the ultimate form of griefing and I don't understand why those votes can pass with a SMALL MINORITY, or worse, 50/50.

Just 10 minutes ago, a vote PASSED with 4 yes and 4 no. It's ridiculous

I just had a game where a group of us built a nice base and got to winter and only several veterans stuck around... about 5 newbies joined and they all voted to restart the server because we would not tell them where base was. (I knew that at least 2 of them were griefers as I saw other bases being burned). They voted to restart the world to get back at us. That was not cool. When it comes to voting to restart the world it should be unanimous.

Rolling back the server should be a unanimous vote as well. I had a cave base with a friend and we were doing well. Meanwhile the 4 people at surface base all died and had deerclops destroy half of their base. When I checked their base it wasn't even big. However the rollback vote passed and I had to do a whole days worth of work again. In the end they all still left because they couldn't take care of deerclops. Deerclops is supposed to destroy bases. He's supposed to pose a threat and kill everyone. Why vote rollback something that isn't griefing related?
