AlliedKhajiit
I don't remember it being a thing before, but I've just hit summer in my world and I've started hearing a really annoying cricket/chirping noise in the deciduous forests during summer. Moving to another biome gets rid of the noise, or going down to the caves, but as I come back the stupid noise is there again. As I've set my main base up in the deciduous forest, I can't really change locations. Is there a way to mod/fix the annoying chirping noise out of the game so I don't have to hear it? It's driving me up the walls Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/68140-how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-chirping-noise-in-summer-in-deciduous-forests/ Share on other sites
GentlemanFridge
I'm afraid the sound itself can't be removed (unless you're not afraid to mess with the files). You can turn down the volume of ambiance though On a different note, I believe the sound comes from critters known as cicadas. They make the sound with their wings, and good lord it's loud. I've had those things on a holiday in France... It was horrible. DeputyDeath
Yeah, you can't remove it. I have the same thing and tbh it doesn't bother me at all. If it's any consolation, at least you don't have the laughing sounds from swamp biomes or literally any of the stuff I get in my Wilson world (it looks like the ambiance gets more spoopy as time passes). CaptainChaotica
Is that a cicada or a cricket sound, in the game? I always get those mixed up, as they're both bugs that make loud, constant, chirpy noises at night, especially in the summer. At any rate, it reminds me of catching fireflies and being allowed to stay up past 9:00 on summer nights as a little kid in Iowa, so for me it's kinda nostalgic. (We do have the occasional cricket where I live now (Utah), but it's uncommon enough that when you DO hear one, you notice it. The main bugs we seem to have here are bees, spiders, wasps, and the occasional dragonfly. No, not THAT one! : P Although the real ones are freaky-looking enough.) ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/68140-how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-chirping-noise-in-summer-in-deciduous-forests/#findComment-783734 Share on other sites
CameoAppearance
I think the ambience is from Shipwrecked-compatible RoG worlds rather than deciduous forests, because I heard it when I set up camp in a grassland in a Shipwrecked-RoG save as WX-78, as well as on my RoG Warly save with my base in a deciduous forest, but I never heard it when I was playing Wilson in a RoG save I started after getting Shipwrecked. I don't dislike it on its own merits, but it's very noisy and seems a bit out of place; there's also wave noises mixed in with the bug noises, which initially made me think it was Shipwrecked ambience applied to the wrong world by mistake, but I don't think it plays at any point in Shipwrecked. It also makes it harder to tell when the Dragonfly's coming, although this is only a real issue if you're playing as Wes since otherwise the character will give a warning. I just realised this doesn't actually answer your question. Modding it out is probably your only option.
