Shortening middle names for easy calling of name is a common practice. I used to think it was just a fanon thing, too (and I HATE fanon) until I came across someone asking that, and it led back to a veeeerrry old, multi-page thread on this very forum. In which one of the devs (the one who does all the lore stuff) said "Probably Percival, as that's the name I had in mind when I wrote it." There ya go.
