A Finnish dedicated server

Recommended Posts

I haven't made any changes to world gen. The only two mods I have are server-side (Server Status which provides game info for the website, and my own mod AntiGrief which prevents Lureplants and Spider Eggs from being planted near the portal). I may add characters and maybe some vanity items, but nothing that changes gameplay balance.

I prefer to play as Willow. I've also completed adventure mode with Wigfrid, so I could pitch in as a warrior if needed. Right now I can manage spiders near camps and thin the population in overrun areas, but no one's managing beefalos or hounds. Though I don't really care about play style or whether someone's a loner or follows me around everywhere. I've played other survival multiplayer games enough to know that most players are either griefers or trolls or have the verbal fluency of a pig man. So what I'm looking for is level-headed people to play with and maybe keep an eye on things. Because other than vote kick, there are no tools to monitor players.

I could set up Teamspeak. My mic isn't really suitable for gaming, so I don't usually bother connecting it.

The host computer is capable of running DST. We've had 12 players and I didn't notice a drop in performance. It doesn't cost me anything, so unless/until my friend pulls the plug, the server stays up.

Good day Seventh Rat! I joined the server but it was mostly ruined. skulls everywhere and none really thought of recycling the world, for example, stumps everywhere and burned things. What I would prefer is to restart the world, it's too hard to survive especiallynow that it's winter,

thanks, Skyl0rd

SeventhRat, thanks for the information, much appreciated. The server sounds intriguing. If you are going to make any changes, however, I have a few suggestions you can but do not have to consider.

- Huge servers (with more people, that is) tend to go extinct quickly, particularly in the vicinity of the portal. Accelerated world regrowth helps. Just the first tier above normal, mind you.

- One mod you ought to check out is AFK Detection. Very useful if not essential when something calls you away and there are people around. I run it on all my servers set for 30 seconds of idleness and it does make a difference.

- You mentioned the inability to control players. Have you ever used Fix Multiplayer combined with Drop Stuff on Kick? My favourite feature is the temporary lock on stealing from chests, fridges and chesters, burning things and hammering structures. There are various elements you can adjust as you need (like starting items; I don't use it bar from night-related ones, which means resources for two torches unless I am incorrect).

Now my "credentials". I have been a host for different people for several months now. My eldest remembered world had 138 days before it started lagging for people and hence had to be left alone. I can play most characters depending on whom the host needs. My preferred vanilla characters are Willow, WX-87, Wendy or Wilson, although I could also play Wigfrid since you say you play Willow and could use a warrior. I can kite enemies, craft, manage camps or cook food to maximise the nutritional values of resources at hand, but what I am usually elected to is using the ecosystem to farm resources without summoning Krampus (traps that kill without increasing naughtiness, stealing items from mobs, regardless of whether it is a tallbird or a band of clockworks, and surviving near or in the swamp). On servers with lore-friendly and balanced mods, I can get you more food than usual by utilising Throwable Spears and More Actions. I don't need them desperately though. I favour close cooperation with use of chat and no PvP, but can try something different too. As a host, there are chests with starting resources for newcomers, beginner camps to be used freely and prefabs like trees, grass, rocks and saplings to get them starting. The offer of escort can be turned down, naturally. On public servers, I tend to ask if I can be of particular use and if there is no response, I gather what I can, craft some structures or tools and leave them by the portal or give to a player before going so that I am not farming their world for nothing. If you wish to see my servers to get an idea of my playstyle, I will be glad to arrange for that.

One more thing: if you are looking for some challenge, try out Taronci by Hattershiara on Steam. A very nicely-balanced character with his disadvantages being frailness and lowered cold/moisture resistance.

Regards and thank you if you read this all ;)!

It's true that it's hard to survive if you first join in winter or summer, but you can come back in spring or autumn. There are plenty of resources a few screens away from the portal.

I wouldn't worry about the skeletons. People keep getting themselves killed near the portal. It seems to be yet another way of trolling. I've cleaned it up several times. I also replace any destroyed fire pits.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm going to change regrowth to fast and flint to often the next time I reset the map. I'm also tempted to set world_size to huge.

I'll take a look at the mod. Most of the changes make things a bit too easy for my tastes, but it seems to be configurable.

7 Days to Die has a web service that tracks player movement and lets you view their inventory. So when someone reports a theft, you can tell who's been in their base and will most likely find the stolen items in their inventory.

Thanks a lot, SeventhRat! You should probably disable starting items Fix Multiplayer offers, the same for map revealing and the increased efficiency of both farms and drying racks (perhaps set the spawning rate of Krampus to default too) unless you want anything like that, but the options to protect the world from griefing are quite useful (take a look at the dragonfly nerfing, you may not want it). I no longer even increase the amount of flint when I use the accelerated regrowth rate, to be honest. Please use any settings you prefer. If you let me know when I could see the server and who you'd like me to play as (I'm flexible, though my preference is split between Willow and WX-87 followed up by Wendy), I will be happy to.

So you CAN use 7DtD's tracking system for DST servers, can't you? That's worth knowing. If you cared to tell me the details (maybe in a note to avoid messing your thread up), I would be very grateful.

As far as I know, there is no such service for DST. Unless you see someone take something they shouldn't take, there's no way to control thieves. Though I haven't had any problems as long as I keep my things far away from the portal and remember to move any valuables to my inventory before disconnecting. (Forgot my raincoat in Chester once, and it was gone the next time I joined. But you gotta do what you gotta do to survive, eh?)

Simple Protection seems promising.

Regarding people stealing from chesters, despawning with it (him/her?) is a solution. Personal Chesters is a mod that features this. Thanks for your reply. If you want, we can try finding each other on Steam through a PM (too old-fashioned to post it just anywhere, sorry).

Also, if the mode is not endless, if I die, I prefer logging out to avoid draining your sanity and explain where the loot is through Steam, Origin, DA or what have you.

Oh, and regarding "vanity items", Tungsten is very rewarding. The ingredients are late-game and rare (gems, moonrock etc. and a Prestihatitator), but it gives you several interesting recipes to scrounge for. No idea if it would work on an existing server though.
