email not validated but I have validated the email i received

I have recently received the game as a gift on steam. when I try to play the game it stops at the message "Email Not Validated". I have gone back to my email and did find a previous email for validation and I click it and it takes me to the register complete page. however, when I try to log in it still tells me the email is not registered. When I click Try again, it takes me to a form where it shows my steam account and asks for an email address to be able to send the validation email again. when I put in my email address and submit I get the message

I can't play the game on my steam account. Help!

That would suggest you used the same email address for two different steamIDs. If it's a gmail account, the simple fix is to use your + addresses (e.g. change annezlove@gmail.com to annezlove+klei@gmail.com)
