Issue

Lots of people seem to have an issue in which they are sitting in a server on their own when they want to design it to their specifications. It is crazy that a lot of people want to play with others, but are all sitting on their own; why aren't they playing together?

Idea - Match Up Service

As well as Browse/Host you have an option of Match Up. This service allows you to set your desired world-gen and game type and then tries to match you up with someone that desires the same. If it finds someone with the same game preference as you, you're sent to the character screen together and you both start at Day 1. After this the game becomes visible in the server listings as normal.

Technicalities

  • Hosting: If you're confident in your internet connections you can tick a 'Host' box which will make you the host of the game. If two people have selected this it falls to whomever entered the match up services first.
  • Bad connections: The match up services will run checks on players connections to each other and if it is above a certain ping (this can be set by the player) then they won't be matched up.
  • Players to start: You have the option of setting a preference of how many players needed to start a game.
  • Slight variations in world/game type: If you have very slight difference in world type it may match you up but point out the differences and give you the chance to accept or not. Example: All preferences are the same except you want flint set to 'more' and they don't, so it will give you the option to join with flint as default or wait for the next game.

Any feedback is appreciated.
