Snowman ( Proposal)

Recommended Posts

yes, please. A snow-implementation. If there is snow, it can be collected (with a snow-shovel) and some stuff can be crafted like snowman (with different looks like the balloons), snowballs, snow walls (or iglo), ice (maybe with fire), snow angels, footprints of other player. But its a lot of work ...

I would like a way to clear the base of snow.  It would make the area warmer, and look more pleasant and homey in the winter wastelands.  Being able to craft some items from snow sounds good, too.  Say, 3 snow can be compacted into 1 ice, 1 snow can be made into a snowball to be hurled at players or creatures, doing 0-5 damage, and making them colder (actually, this sounds like it could be used by greifers), a winter-only sleeping structure/ decoration.  The snowman either should only give about a garland's worth of sanity at a very close range, and it should be cold, given that it's basically a cheap, craft-able glommer.  It should also melt due to warm temps, either because of a nearby fire, or because of the spring thaw.

Yeah, the winter can be made harder: The ground of the whole upper world gets 4 stages of snow like Wilson's beard: 1. no snow. 2. little. 3. medium and 4. extreme. The extreme snow will make everything much colder. When using a snow-shovel on a ground, this area will get its own status and be put back to the stage before. Over time the snow-status and -timers of these unique areas will merge with each other or with the whole upper world by reducing/removing their status and triggers/hook methods. Reason for merging is to keep the server performance high. Winter naturally switches between the stages 3 and 4.

When they do such effects, the throw-accuracy can be reduced to 30-50%

Garlands give very less sanity (fifth of a gloomer). In winter evenings and nights are much longer. If you really like to give it a cold-aura (freezing is a big problem for many player), then the sanity should be increased at least to that gloomer's one.

When a player gets crazy, the snowman change to a horrible state like the statues in the ruins.

It should also melt due to warm temps, either because of a nearby fire, or because of the spring thaw.

Maybe every season should get it's own 'avatar'. After winter the snowman melts and you can plant a tree-like-(wo)man. This one will dry out in summer, where you can build instead of it a scarecrow. This one in turn will get blow out always in autumn because of strong winds. And in autumn the players can build a fruit-(wo)man, which gets spoiled faster on low temperature unlike the regular fruits. The cave-avatar needs gems and the ruin-avatar thulecite.

Every avatar react accordingly on it's own and the ongoing season/area and gives some special effect to show some game mechanics - not always just sanity up. Actually the giants are already something like the avatars of the seasons...
