More out of Compass (and extra)

Recommended Posts

Compass has, well...limited uses, so i thought why not give it more uses? to craft it into something else?

Pocket Tracer: Would make compass into device able to point out closest Food, monsters or materials (kinda same matter like Divining Rod, only compass's Needle points where it is). You can add into tracer different stuff, such berries, meat, grass etc. and each material points out where the closest material is. (Like adding "berries" to tracker, it tracks only berries, or "Monster meat" to track out monsters that drops monster meat.)

Not saying the range of tracer should be full world wide, but quite similar to divining rod's range. I would also make it somewhat hard to craft material wise, because it makes searching stuff easier.

Extra: Meteor Staff: magic staff able to call down meteor where you mouse is pointed at, slow start up like telelocator staff and spawns random sizes meteor from heavens. Would have around 5-10 uses and crafting it requires moonstone.

Thats pretty much it. Sorry about typos. Pretty much just an odd suggestion, but felt like suggesting it anyway :p

I like the idea of a compass being used in a craftable shareable map, but I've come across a better idea of sharing maps; a structure that sucks the memories that one person has of the local geography, and copy/pastes to the other person, reducing sanity for both people.  The pocket tracer seems mostly useless; you'd have explored enough to find some berries and spiders before you crafted such a thing, and being able to call meteors seems risky; they can do some serious damage to bases.  Perhaps having it lead you to the nearest meteor shower area?

But yeah, the compass does need some usefulness.

A jack sparrow compass: after crafting you can 'align' it with an item like silk. Then it points to the next spider den, which is not on your map as north. Pig skins will aim you to yet unknown pig houses. Rocks to boulders and so on. After the aimed target is on your map, you get a sound and the compass aims normally to north. It has around 5 usages.

This feature will make DST MUCH more fun, since of NO pointless running around in that massive world. When your sanity is low, it points to graves and dragonfly
