[bug] Apes run away from player in non-player fight

I think it isn't a bug is; it is a normal behavior of them. This allows you to collect their drops before they pick them up, if they are still fighting when you get close to them.

 

They prioritise fighting over picking mostly. You can normally wait until most of them are dead and still get (almost) all of the loot. Your described behaviour makes you time when you go in (right after a kill) to scatter them and pick up the loot. If they would not run you could stand in the middle of the fight and pick up the stuff.

 

It also happens if you just send a single ape to attack e.g. a snake. If the sneak is dead, the ape is not in fight anymore and not running away when you come to pick up the stuff, so this wouldnt even prevent their looting. They just run away as long as the fighting continues.

 

Befriended apes don't pick up any stuff too.

It seems a bit like "if(fighting): run away from player. else: annoy leader" was made without keeping in mind that now the player can be their friend while they fight.
