[Suggestion]Steamboat!

Recommended Posts

Right now, I think there isn't that much variety in the different kinds of boats. There's only really 3 types. At the start, you have your basic row boat which is made with the science machine. Then, once you get the alchemy engine, you only really get to choose between armored and cargo boats. Since you can just make boat repair kits, there's really no reason you'd use the armored boat.

So, my idea is the steamboat! It could require gears to craft, and instead of sails it would be powered by coal. As the boat runs out of power, it slows down a little bit.

The speed could be something like this:

100%-60% = faster than sails

60%-30% = equal to sails

30%-0% = slower than sails

0% = paddle speed

If you're at full power and you add a piece of coal you get a little speed boost for a second, similar to how riding waves makes you go a little faster.

I think this is a great idea, but i'm not sure if they would implement coal for just that. Anything burnable could work though. It would also be cool if there was a endothermic boat powered by Nitre that would freeze water and slides across the ice. During the hotter seasons it could be less effective and need more fuel, and when fully fueled can freeze enemies that are chasing you.

I'm not sure it would be the best if a boat froze the water underneath it since it can already go across the water, but like an amulet that froze the water underneath you so you could walk across it would be pretty cool. You could charge it with nitre or ice! :D

I think only being able to use charcoal would be a good way to keep it balanced so there is still a reason to use sails and other boats.

well gears are quite rare  in SW so managing to get them would be a way to have it balanced, also I assume Cargo boat would still have more invent and Armored boat would still be more resistant, this one would just be faster

Remember that we will get new mechanical mobs so Gears are only at the moment a scarce ressource but i still like your idea since it makes each boat unique and usefull instead of each just being an upgrade to the others.

I was thinking about a boat engine that you can attach in any boat, I was going to create a topic only for this but you read my mind!

Boat engine you can create using gears, and you can put it in the sail slot.

I was browsing suggestions and when I found this one was about to suggest the same thing about the boat engine being attached like a sail. Could very well be a steam engine that you attach, because how would you make gas. So a steam engine you attach could work.

there's really no reason you'd use the armored boat.

Actually I believe the armored boat resists wave and enemy damage (making it a lot more efficient for an action-packed sailing experience) and it's also a little bit faster than the cargo ship in acceleration/top speed.

(correct me if I'm wrong by the way, it's just what I've heard and it really seems to be true for me personally)

But in any case I love the idea of more boats. The more options the better and more fun! Magic tier boats are my suggestion! :D

The armored boat is far the more durable and ''tanky'' boat with a decent speed.

I think they will let the boat with modders because there are many types of boats you can imagine and they won't lose time making a large variety of boats with more important things to implement and balance.

Oh, they do @Stalker2400.

As for the idea, it's a really neat one. I'd be ok with it running on charcoal, at a constant speed, with the boat simply stopping when it runs out of fuel. At this point you'd be stuck at sea (steamboat too heavy to move while rowing) unless you craft a lower tier boat that you can row with (or simply use the one prebuilt in emergency cases).
