World limits and distance between islands

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I'm having some trouble figuring out the limit of the world and the distance between each island. I've died three times while sailing for a looooong distance looking for a new island. Do you know (those who maybe have discovered the whole map) how many islands on average are there and how close are they from each other? Could it be that they are very separate?

Thank you!

Map is pretty huge, and very random, once i got all biomes on one island and when i sailed 2 meters away i found gambling machine, i thought this is heavenly map but i got bitten by a snake and after 7 days search for a coral i died oO, such an irony.. )

The best way to understand map limits is to sail one way until you hit fog and get teleported to the opposite side of the map.

It can be fairly easy to pass right by an island and miss that it's just off screen.  A couple of things have improved my ability to find them more quickly.  First, someone here in the forum mentioned that your character will generally spawn on a central island, with the others surrounding it.  That seems to be pretty accurate.  The second thing is to keep an eye on the shallows.  I've noticed they have a tendency to 'run together', providing a basic path or at least an indication where the next bit of land might be.

What I've started doing is choosing a direction and sailing straight until I hit the edge of the starting island's shallows (if I don't hit another island first).  Then, I follow the edge around.  If I notice a curving or widening of the shallows, I start angling in a bit.  The last few times I've done this, I've run into an island easily within a day's sailing, many times much more quickly.

If you're around shallows, you should be near enough to islands to get to them.  The longer stretches of deeper water seem to more around the farther edges of the maps, though I've found islands out there as well.

Edit:  I hopped into my game to grab a couple of map screenshots to help illustrate.

In this closer view of my starting islands, you can see how I followed the shallows to find these initial islands.

Here's a zoomed out map view.  A little more difficult to make out, but there's still some pathing using the shallows.  You can also see how big the map is, and I haven't even gotten to the edges yet.  The parts where I crossed into deeper water were either where I could see shallows across the way, made an educated guess where there might be land, or is a secondary path to where I already knew there was an island.

The whole map is a square and if you reach the limit you appear from the other side with some loss of sanity.

Use spyglass to open map is the best way i figure. And surf in the direction of the wave helps you to explore faster.

Thank you so much to all of you for your advice! I just started in a new world (poor Wendy died in the middle of the sea) and managed pretty well. I travelled around the shallow areas of the sea and found my way around very quickly. It is also luck, since in this map the different islands are sooo close to each other compared to my previous ones. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, but I'm starting to get the hang of it!
