How does an individual acquire bioluminescence?

I notice that you can craft a bottle lantern, presumably the SW equivalent to the lantern. And an essential component of it is a bit of bioluminescence. Where and how would I get that? I assume it can be found somewhere in the ocean. Is a net required?

At night, some deep parts of the ocean light up with an effect very similar to fireflies. If you sail/row over it with a trawl net attached to your boat, you'll pick up 1 per square you run over. It's a fairly abundant resource to be honest.

Use a normal net (the one that requires 2 silk to craft) and then go out into the deep ocean at night. You will see lines of blue glowing stuff that is hard to miss. Catch it!

I was going to make one of these, but I'm assuming there is a limited supply of bioluminescence though, so I haven't bothered yet. I'll stick with my Boat Lamp, Torches and Chimineas for now, I think.
