McMatthew
Back when I first started playing this game, and I took my first tall bird egg, I wasn't expecting the tall bird to become aggressive (how very naive). Anyway, in response to this I dropped the egg expecting the tall bird to become neutral again as I had given it back it's baby. Alas, it did not acknowledge my offering and continued to hunt me down. So basically, my suggestion is that if you take a tall bird egg, but decide you haven bitten off more than you can chew, you can drop the egg allowing the tall bird to pick it up in it's beak and place it back in its nest. Maybe this would make things too easy, but you're not exactly gaining anything from it as you don't get the egg. There have been numerous occasions where the tall bird has incessantly followed me until night time so that I either have to fight it (which seems cruel, I mean, I did take it's egg) or die in the darkness. Anyway, that's it.
mobius187
i know I've made a similar suggestion in the past. It's current behavior is due to players, such as myself, boasting about how painfully easy it was to steal eggs from the tallbirds, and that was long before you could hatch them into smallbirds. It was a valid issue then, but I do feel like the tallbirds take the matter "too far". Dropping the egg should settle the issue, as you described, as they get their baby back and you get nothing for all your trouble. I would however add that tallbirds should still attack you if you are within proximity to their nests, regardless of whether you've done anything yet or not. They should chase you until you exit their "nest proximity" zone and then return to their nest. Again, this is just when you get too close, not if you've actually stolen an egg. If you stole an egg they should continue chasing you.
