House and longer time to craft/build it (in phases)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

So I searched the forums and also DS forums (suggestion forums) to find something similar to my post. Since I haven't (or it was way too old), here we go.

My idea is as the title says - a house. I was inspired by this guy (especially the tiled roof hut):

It is completely doable by one person and really interesting. And if more people were working on it, it would be even faster. For example he built the mud hut in around 30 days. This would be great in Don't Starve (NOT as a mod because the different mechanic - or is it doable by a mod?) - by creating some kind of building mechanic, which would build something in phases. Since the structure would also require more materials, it would be very hard to build, but it would last (almost) forever (or after how many years does dried mud hut with tile roof deteriorate?).

Resources consumed / used together:

120x mud (right now only thing close to this is forest turf, but later it would be great to carry water in a mud made jug from ponds and create mud from forest turf + water)

20x boards

50x stone

120x grass

40x rope

10x twigs

1x shovel

Of course a character cannot just be stuck in animation like "I'm building" and get out of the animation after 30 days. It would be the same animation as now for everything, but if you wanted to proceed with next phase right away, it would tell you, that you worked on it too much already and you are tired). So Time spent together:

30 days (if one character is working on it)

1st phase - clearing the area, creating the frame - 1 day

2nd phase - creating underfloor heating system - 3 days

3rd phase - creating walls - 6 days

4th phase - creating tiles - 15 days

5th phase - finishing structure (creating doorway, inside build fireplace with chimney on the side of the building, etc.) - 5 days

Materials for each phase:

1 - 20x boards, 30x rope

2 - 20x stone, 20x mud (forest turf), 20x grass 1x shovel

3 - 40x mud, 40x grass, 30x stone

4 - 40x mud, 40x grass

5 - 10x twigs, 10x rope, 20x mud, 20x grass

I know - lot of materials through lot of days, but the benefits finally:

- for max 2 people inside at a time

- waterproof

- fireproof

- shade in summer (you won't overheat), warm place in winter (you won't get cold)

- will withstand 10 stomps (or walk overs) by giants (together, you would need to repair it after the fight)

- provides sanity boost for everyone in the hut (like being around 3 pigs)

- provides health regen like sleeping in a tent (only when you sleep in the hut)

- storage for materials you need to keep dry and out of possible summer fires (only 2x2 storage)

- built-in fireplace to cook things (no crockpot however)

There would be several actions you could do with the hut:

- just walk inside it = protection from heat, cold, fire, water and gives a small sanity boost (like top hat) + you can cook things like on a campfire in the fireplace

- sleep in it = the same as walking in + gives you the big sanity boost and a regular health boost. But you won't be able to cook things, as you are asleep of course

TLDR - a new type of house / hut, where more people can be at the same time, big costs, big time to build it, but good benefits to be usable and a viable option for sleeping and taking shelter (without the sleep mechanic).

What do you think?
