AsherRose
Me and a group of 5 friends started up a new world. I stepped out first as Wigfrid, a brave adventurer in a new world. While waiting for the others to join I set of exploring, finding a nearby pig village and plenty of supplies. Adventuring further I find a desert. As a brave Wigfrid I am unfazed by hound mounds so venture forth. Then I stumble across some lava pools. Odd I think as it's Autumn but while I am a seasoned Don't Starve player, I am less experienced in Don't Starve Together. Adventuring further I find the giant that has been most elusive from my single player adventures - the Dragonfly. Remembering my single handed defeat of a Deerclops with Wigfrid's spear and helmet I stride forward to engage my foe... I die, quickly and alone. Noticing my friends have now joined (and haven't noticed my stupid defeat) I run back, sneakily pick up my stuff and hunt for a good place to make a base. The others seem to be messing around, exploring and dying so I call them over when I set up a base and try and instill some order into my less experienced troops. As relatively inexperienced players, I show them some jobs to do and help dispach some hounds that have snuck up on us. We get a wood farm and a spider farm going but have a significant lack of food due to frogs terrifying us from the ponds. All except Webber who is happily munching away at the huge amount of monster meat Wigfrid keeps bringing in from the spiders. Woodie keeps dying due to becoming a Werebeaver and going insane and the others keep wandering off at night and forgetting to make a torch in time. Fortunately we chose an Endless server so a quick trip back to the portal and everyone was right as rain. Then we ran into a big problem. Gold. I'd explored extensively and found a rocky biome but there were very few gold rocks. I'd got through it all making my armour which didn't even leave enough for an alchemy engine. Winter was now approaching fast and we would need an alchemy engine for winter clothing. Unfortunately our Wickerbottom had left earlier so off I went to hunt for gold. I get distrcted by koalephant tracks and find two which I plan to save for winter food. Eventually I trek to the pig king to trade some monster jerky for gold and finally can set up our alchemy engine. I also create us all stylish top hats with the huge volume of spiders I killed and we wander around together looking tremendously dapper. Then I get a request for help. Webber was exploring and found a swamp but met a tentacle (and a swift end...). "Help me get my stuff" he asked. We walked together, forgetting that there was a pig village on the way. Webber manages to dodge the angry pigs and we finally arrive at the swamp. "That's where I died" he says and I see the pile of items and the telltale bubbling ground underneath. "Wait here" I say as I sprint through and get a handful of things. A few runs later and we have all of his things back and head back home, however the pigs were not so easily dodged on the way back and Webber is killed again. "I can get my stuff, don't worry" he says so I leave him to it and head back with all the reeds we also procured. Soon winter is upon us and so I make sure my comrades are huddled around the fire and instruct them to continue chopping trees and farming spiders. I hunt down a winter Koalephant and make myself a warm coat. Now I have that I head towards MacTusk to get my walking cane and hopefully a Tam. I arrive at night, set up a fire and then head straight for the hounds guarding his home. Fortunately there are nearby spiders who join me in attacking, they take down a hound while I quickly dispatch the other hound and MacTusk himself. I find my prizes, clear up the remaining spiders and head back to show my new Tam O'Shanter and my soon-to-be walking cane. Except we're still out of gold. No walking cane for me I make some winter hats and check everyone has enough food and stays near to the fire. Then, desperate for gold I trek to pig king and trade some of our precious Koalephant meat for gold. I get colder and colder, burning anything I find on the way. Finally I arrive, freezing and starving and trade the meat I brought. I begin running swiftly back to camp. "Hmmm, we're halfway though winter" I think "and yet to have a hound attack, how fortunate". Then I hear them coming in the night. I'm still running back to base so set up a fire and prepare to fight. "Lead them to bees" I yell to my team mates. Four hounds arrive, I quickly take them out and run on to base. "They're chasing us" is all I hear and I see a few ghosts running past and then I find the hounds, who have destroyed all of the bees. I take out a few more, including fire hounds and some ice hounds and realise I'm low on health (due to cold) and am very hungry. What's in my inventory? The only food is monster meat. No time to cook it as the hounds are too near and I'm cold I swallow it, hoping that I misremembered the amount of health it removes. I didn't. I die. As a ghost I stroll over to the portal and find all of my fellow players dead and attempting to revive themselves. Unfortunately the hounds have followed us and are camping at the spawn. Each time someone revives the remaining half dozen hounds quickly murders them. Eventually two of us manage to escape and run for our lives through the cold and hounds to make it back to base. Ready to warm up. Ready to survive. With hope we arrive... ......... To find Deerclops merrily destroyiong it. I do what I think best, quickly stoke the fire and armour up. I engage deerclops stubbornly fighting for the remnants of our base as Webber watches bemused. Unfortunately after the hound murders everyones max health is around 30. I fight, I get frozen and die with Webber quickly following. We finally admit defeat to the elements and leave our destroyed world. applebottom
LOL *wipes tears* thanks for reminding me the people part of DST is what makes it difficult. When you said you were a DS expert looking for a Dragonfly and said you found the lava pools I started laughing. Not trying to diss your skills, but I can totally see myself doing that too and I also relate to the "whoops, better pretend I didn't die, must keep my dignity intact" thing. The ice and fire hounds probably spawned when your comrades haunted the normal hounds...
