Tooth traps don't work in PvP.

As it currently stands, it's best to avoid building bases. Your pvp opponents generally won't hang around long enough to bother with attacking your base. Usually what will end up happening is you will kill them/they will kill you and the base will remain irrelevant. PvP (in my experience) is entirely about gearing up quickly and avoiding your opponent until you're ready to wreck face.

As for good base builds, the current most effective strategy that I've seen is setting up thick rock/moonrock walls and growing tentacles along the outside of these walls using Wickerbottom's books. It's far from perfect as anyone who tries hard enough will be able to get in but it's a great deterent. You might find some free stuff alongside your walls when you log back in, too.

Last but definitely not least - disable movement prediction.

ThePlayer:EnableMovementPrediction(false)

Pop that bad boy into your console (activated with the ~ key) and you'll have much better control of your actions.

Wickerbottom tentacles are definitely useful in DST, as they are pretty much the only reliable defense against enemy players while you are offline or away from base (unless you are Webber). They can still be killed of course, but it's more about making it hard for people to get your stuff rather than impossible, since they will probably go find someone else's base to raid if yours looks hard. Even if they worked for pvp, tooth traps and mines wouldn't be that great since they are easy to see and avoid. Until we get Houndius Shootius's that work in pvp, good luck absolutely preventing item theft while you are gone.

There are several mods that solve this problem, including by locking chests, multiplying wall hp by X amount, etc.
