Do trees provide shade to structures or just the player?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've been wondering about protecting my farms in RoG against burning down in the summer. I'm aware there are water balloons to throw and that anti-fire machine that lobs ice at any fires in sight.

But I was thinking:
If standing under trees provides shade to the player, does that mean that planting trees around my base will lower the temperature of the area as well?

As in, if I surround a plantation of twigs or bushes with trees, will they be (more) protected against burning down?

Curious about your response,

Nope. Trees have a tag called "shelter", which correlates to a measure called "TUNING.TREE_SHADE_COOLING_THRESHOLD". In all the files I searched through, that measure is only applied to "self" - in other words, your character.

The ambient temperature does not take "TUNING.TREE_SHADE_COOLING_THRESHOLD" into account on it's own. if it did, you could just plant an entire world of forest and never experience Spring/wetness or Summer/overheating at all. You'd probably freeze in a heartbeat during winter though =P
