Request Permission to take from chests

Recommended Posts

What if there was a "Request Permission" option that could be turned on when chests were built? When it's on, players would need to request permission to take items from the chest. When the items are picked up, the request would be immediately sent out to the creator of the chest, and they would get a notification about the size of a steam notification asking them whether or not so-and-so could take such-and-such from the chest. The creator could then quickly click either yes or no and then resume his business. Hotkeys could also be assigned for yes or no to make the process even faster. This option would only need to be turned on for chests with items that are either valuable or easy to waste, and it would allow responsible players, such as the host, to keep track of less responsible players. Alternatively, the host could control the option for all chests.

A couple other options could be added to streamline the process, such as some players not requiring permission if they're trustworthy, or some situations disabling the trigger, such as player danger. A third button, "Use?" could be added to the chest creator's notification, such that when clicked, the player taking the items could quickly explain why the items are needed. This would take a couple more seconds, but would allow the creator more information in cases in which they're a bit suspicious as to the purpose of the items which would be taken. Multiple items could also be bundled together in one request to cause the player taking from the chest to not have to repeat the process multiple times. All of this together would allow the process to only take a couple of seconds and potentially save stacks of resources or valuable items which could be easily put to bad use if a player doesn't understand the purpose that the creator is planning for them

I think this is a good suggestion. An ownership and permissions granting system. But proposed implementation looks quite unnatural and odd since it's a telepathy. Also requesting a permission is kind of spammy and is a micro-management on owner's part to reply to.

I'd say making a chest to have a number lock is a proper way of doing so. Chest owner can set a chest lock to a number like '666' and then tell or whisper that number to a person he trusts.
