The Piggyback

After 3 attempts of collaboration with random people on public servers that went down in flames I've decided to become a nomad and carry my home on my back like a snail.

 

Pre-building (research but don't place) some of the stuff I would later on need (like fire pit, crock pot, bee box and so on) helped to some extent with my nomadic life, but having poor-man's backpack I often found myself in the situation where I had to prioritize and take some tough decisions regarding on what to take with me and what to leave behind cos of the very limited space of my and backpack and no room in my own inventory.

 

A few revival penalties later due to not one, but 3 MacTusk N' Son Hunting Party at the same time that took me by surprise, hounds packs of 10-15 members that caught me poorly prepared to fight them all alone and just one cos of lag + tentacle, decided that it's time to explore the swamp area and look for cut reeds to make papyrus, and with it a few booster shots to regain the lost health.

 

I think was my 3rd day in the swap when finally found the next best thing after the holly grail of backpacks: a piggyback! I was so happy about it that I had so much room that proceeded to sorting and moving stuff from one backpack to another, and somehow lost notion of time. It was late dusk when Wilson said his first "Did you hear that?" and a few seconds later a huge pack of hounds of like 15-20 members emerged like from nowhere and starting to aggro me.

 

I knew that the Walking Cane speed bonus (25% more) and the heavy Piggyback speed penalty (-20% in DS) would somewhat canceling each-other out and that will be more than enough speed to be safe from hounds chewing on my butt.

 

A few desperate attempts to make them aggro on tentacles that ended in failures later, the night decided to add insult to the injury by settling in and due to sloppy judgement under pressure at that point, instead of dropping the backpack and equip Willow's lighter I switched directly to it while having the backpack with me...

 

Without the Walking Cane's speed bonus to cancel the Piggyback's speed penalty the Hound quickly gained on me and swallowed me fast.. After finished me they started to attack stuff around and hit a few tentacles that killed them fast.. That happened like a few meters away from where I died. /facepalm

 

Now I'm at day 106 and look forward to use that HUGE backpack. My ultimate goal would be to get a Krampus Sack, but since that's quite a risky gambling (1% to get it), not to mention it needs some preparation to fight it, I'll just have to settle with the Piggyback for now.

Note to self: get a miner hat if you aren't willing to drop the backpack to save your sorry ass.
