ToNiO55
Hi, I know it is not related to the game itselfbut I think its may be interesting for some server administrator I wondered if it would be better to use a web server rather than go on a workshop the workshop would be simply a database for mods I do not know if the mods are large size or notmaybe that in the future will be the larger-sized and if possible add a download percentage in loading menu when you try to join a server I think this idea because I use it on many game server and allows most everyone to have their own redirection system, and not use the same source as the workshop download its still an idea, I do not know if it is possible to apply a technically on "don't starve" in any case I use this method on source engine games and unreal engine https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9717-HMAP-7066 This can be very handy when many mods on servers Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/50746-webserver-and-percentage-of-download/ Share on other sites
rezecib
@ToNiO55, I'm a little unsure of my interpretation of what you wrote, but I think you're asking for the server to be able to directly send its current mods to the client. This is something that was considered, but last I heard, the devs want to avoid doing that if at all possible, because the workshop gives them a little control over the mods-- if mods can automatically propagate from hosts to clients, you can run into some viral behavior there which opens up opportunities for "malware mods" or something. I can imagine there are other problems it would cause, too, like maybe someone's mod download gets corrupted or tampered with, then they host a server, now the faulty version of the mod spreads to clients, and their games don't check for an update because they see they have the latest version number, etc...
