How do I log out of someones DST

Recommended Posts

I share my computer. We both bought the game at the same time. The other person who uses this computer installed the game first and now when I try and play the server I want to create is in their name. And their game history is all there even though I'm logged into my own steam account and started the game from my steam library.

Is there any way of logging out of their game and into my own?

So let me get this straight:

You and another person share the same computer, both of you bought DST. The other person installed it first and now, your friend is the one you're always playing as.

I think this is an issue Klei needs to work with a bit. Other than that, I don't think I can help you.

It sounds like a user error, not a programming error if the OP is running a windows machine. On windows, the save data it saved to the current user logged into the computers document folder. The OP probably didn't set up multiple user names and is running into the issue describe because lack of computer knowledge.

@OP

Create a new user on the computer and log into that user when you want to play your saved games.

DST doesn't operate with the steam cloud, therefore, the saves are on your computer.

These are in C:/Users/User/MyDocuments/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether.

When you launch DST, no matter the steam account, it will look for save files in the computer it's executed.

You can just rename the Klei folder into Klei_me, so that when other people play, a new Klei fresh folder will be generated.

And when you want to play with your saves, rename Klei_me into Klei, and the other folders will have Klei_other or whatever.

If a friend plays in another computer, and then wants to play on yours with his save files, then he will have to copy the Klei folder into a pendrive and copypaste them into your computer. The same applies to you wanting to use your save files in other computer.

That if making an extra account bothers you.

So you're saying if a friend comes over and wants to play their game the only way is to make a new account on my computer and have them install the game from their steam? That's crazy.

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying. Your friend shouldn't be using your account on your computer anyway, you should learn a thing or two about keeping your files and computer secure. Allowing someone to have full access to your computer, be it friend or other is a huge security risk in your personal data. If you share the computer with family members it's an even bigger risk to let someone outside the family have access to it.

Keeping personal data safe should be your highest priority, even if you think you can trust your friend they can still unintentionally screw you over by navigating to the wrong websites.
