(Question) Special events vs skill level.

For example, the nasher. Ap:hacking.

I figured it meant ratio, 2:1 kind of thing, but sometimes it fails even when it seems it shouldn't. What is the actual calculation for success?

It would be good if your chance of succés was more clear. In some events I will succeed with a low level of skill but fail with a high level of skill. That might just be what it feels like (I must have really poor luck with this type of thing) but I often stay away from such gambling while I may not in games like FTL

I've tried a couple different things-

Ap less than skill, have succeeded. Equal, have succeeded. More, have suceeded.

All failed more than not, but it throws that idea out of the window.

Maybe it is skill x remaining ap?

No- have succeeded with 0 remaining ap.

I understand that not knowing gives a risk factor, and I don't want the game just showing a percentage- but having a basic understanding would be cool.

I think the check is purely on your current skill level (hacking, anarchy, etc).  The cost is separate, and always incurred (remaining AP, etc)

The exact calculation is 1d10 + skill level >= 8. So even with 6 points in a skill you can still fail on a 1 (10% of the time). With no investment in a skill you have a 40% shot of success.
