Oddba11 Posted January 5, 2015 Share Posted January 5, 2015 I went into steam after a friend told me that I could buy a key at a reduced price since I already own the game, but when I tried to do that, I saw that I could only buy the key in a bundle. I saw a friend of mine wanted the game so I bought the bundle and gifted it to him. Now here is where I think having only the bundle with keys is stupid. When I gifted my friend the game with a key for DST, it also gave him the spare key instead of leaving it with me. I looked all over steam and saw that the only way that i could buy the key is if I purchased the game AGAIN in a bundle. All I wanted was the key so I could play with my friends. So, Klei, do you think you could sell just the key as well? I mean, you have loyal fans, I myself included. Could you make just the key for DST also available for purchase? My take is that what's the point of even having the offer for owners of DS to buy DST at a reduced price if someone can just buy it an infinite amount of times for other people? XirmiX Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I just realized this: It's because if everyone could buy Don't Starve Together individually, none would have the need to buy Don't Starve. There's already less people playing Don't Starve single player, and once all the content in Don't Starve is transferred to Don't Starve together, there will be even less people to play DS single player. However, multiplayer version will then be merged with the Single player and keys will be possible to insert for DS single player, which will then result to people going through Don't Starve as a whole to play multiplayer. Though, this still doesn't solve the problem of people not playing Don't Starve single player anymore in the future. This basically means that if you want to get DST for your friends or to play DS with your friends in any matter, you'll have to pay the full price. RobbingZombie Posted January 6, 2015 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I don't know, I don't think I'm going to stop playing the singleplayer when the multiplayer is fully released. Some features introduced in singleplayer don't necessarily have the same effect as multiplayer. Its still quite a different experience. So to me it makes sense that you can't buy cheap keys for friends. Also, some parts of the multiplayer won't be compatible brought back to singleplayer, some monsters like the ewecus were designed specifically for the multiplayer experience.At least in my experience, its 100% worth buying both even if you are new to the series. They are just different experiences, equally fun.
